So, I recently came across a list of favourite names from when I was little. I was really obsessed with changing my name. They are totally not my taste nowHere are some of them.
Sarah- I loved Road to Avonlea and the character Sarah
Claudia- she was my favourite character from the babysitter club books
Tiffany- I thought it was such a pretty name and now I am wondering what I was thinking
Do you have any names you loved as a child? Do you still like them now?
I wa obsessed with the name [name]Esmerelda[/name] as a kid. I had a doll named [name]Jemima[/name]. Of course I was oblivious to the racial connotations and thought it was the most beautiful name, after watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
I was 1000% sure I was going to name a future daughter [name]Hannah[/name] when I was a kid. [name]Hannah[/name] didn’t make the list for any of my pregnancies, so I guess my prediction skills were a bit clumsy.
When I was younger I loved [name]Amanda[/name], but now I find it a little dated. I also really liked [name]Marie[/name], which is pretty enough but a little plain.
I named my “invisible twin” [name]Tiffany[/name] when I was a kid. I also adored the name [name]Sally[/name]. Actually [name]Sally[/name] made it with my into college sometime, but it morphed from [name]Sally[/name] as a fn to a nn for Salvatricia. I went through a lot of name phases for girls. I loved [name]Brooke[/name] for a very long time, too.
Oh! [name]One[/name] of my nicknames was [name]Tia[/name]! (It’s my initials-- [name]Theresa[/name] [name]Irene[/name] [name]Anne[/name]). Dislike it as an actual name but it was a fun nn
I loved [name]Christine[/name] and [name]Raoul[/name], from The Phantom of the [name]Opera[/name]. I also loved [name]Cosette[/name] and [name]Marius[/name], from [name]Les[/name] Miserables. Also, from A [name]Little[/name] [name]Princess[/name], two of the characters whom I would never have wanted to name a child after had the most beautiful names: [name]Lavinia[/name] and Ermengarde. [name]Lavinia[/name] was a spoiled, awful, bitch, and Ermengarde was sweet and kind but a total dunce - all that said, I still love their names.
I love [name]Cosette[/name] to this day! And one of our closest friends is named [name]Marius[/name]. His guy buddies tease him, but I think it’s a very handsome name.
All my baby dolls from about 7 on were [name]Bailey[/name]. Also, [name]Lynn[/name] being a family name, I always thought I would carry it on in the middle spot with my first daughter. I went through a brief ‘witty’ stage in my early teens when I was determined to name her Myrrh…
I remember really loving [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Abigail[/name], and [name]Claire[/name]. I still really like all three, but they’re all too popular for me now (which is funny, because about half my favorites are much more popular than [name]Eliza[/name] is! But it just lost its lustre when I found out so many other people love it, too–it just doesn’t seem as special). [name]Claire[/name] is a MN on my list, to honor family, but I doubt I would use [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Abigail[/name]. I really liked [name]Lacey[/name] in high school, too, and [name]Liberty[/name] nn [name]Libby[/name]. And [name]Tessa[/name]. Apparently, I was [name]Berry[/name] way back then, too, haha.
I also remember REALLY loving [name]Ellen[/name] and [name]Danielle[/name] as sisters, I have no clue why. They both feel very lacklustre to me now, especially together, and very “elle” heavy.
When I first heard [name]Isabella[/name] in 2005, I remember thinking it was the best thing since sliced bread. Which obviously makes sense, since [name]Isabelle[/name] is still my top choice.
Erm, forgot about boys. I always noticed girls’ names more, but I remember really loving [name]Peter[/name], then [name]Jonathan[/name]. And [name]Bryn[/name]! I sort of had this crush on a guy named [name]Bryn[/name] that went to a friend’s church… (Okay, he was the pastor’s kid EVERYONE had a crush on, lol) And I’ve loved it ever since. I used it several times in stories, I love the Welsh history… if it hadn’t gone to the girls so much, I would probably still have it on my list.
I really loved [name]Micah[/name] and [name]Landon[/name] in high school, too, and [name]Benjamin[/name] in college. After [name]Benjamin[/name], my list sort of morphed into what it is now.
Ha! Selenea! Ermengarde and [name]Cosette[/name]! Sounds like we might have been friends. What about [name]Colin[/name] and Dickon from The [name]Secret[/name] Garden? Another pair of polar names, like [name]Lavinia[/name] and Ermengarde. But I loved both.
My favorite names were [name]Meg[/name] (which I loved after reading [name]Little[/name] Women), [name]Sasha[/name] (I thought it very exotic) and [name]Sylvia[/name] (which I thought very silvery sounding and sprightly). [name]Sylvia[/name] retained its charm right up until [name]Fran[/name] Fine’s mother in The [name]Nanny[/name] had the name.
I feel as though my style has “grown up” in a sense. When I was younger I loved names like [name]Skye[/name], [name]Angel[/name], [name]Star[/name], even [name]Cloud[/name] haha! My mom actually gave my little sister the middle name [name]Sky[/name] since I begged her to use it. I still like [name]Skye[/name] & [name]Angel[/name] but now I prefer both for boys. [name]Star[/name] & [name]Cloud[/name] not so much haha.
In middle school I remember writing down the names I wanted for my future children, I really wish I could find that…
I don’t remember any particular favorites - it was constantly changing based on what books I was reading! I did go through a phase at about 6 or so where I really wanted to have my name changed to [name]Victoria[/name] nn [name]Vicky[/name]. I have no clue where I came up with the idea, but I can still see my mom trying not to cringe when I had a serious sitdown to tell her of my big plan.
Let’s see, I liked the names [name]Kimberly[/name], [name]Tammy[/name], [name]Erica[/name], [name]Oriana[/name], & [name]Maia[/name]… I don’t mind the names but I probably wouldn’t use them now. It’s not that I hate the names or anything, just … my tastes changed. Well I still like the name [name]Oriana[/name], but it sounds too much like all the popular -ana type names that are being used today.
Haha…I liked [name]Dawn[/name] because she was my favorite from The [name]Baby[/name]-Sitters Club. No I do not like the name now…actually I didn’t really like the name then, but she was my favorite character.
I used to really like [name]Kara[/name] (which I still do but wouldn’t use) and [name]Anastasia[/name] (which I still think is beautiful but too “exotic” for me now)
My favourite name when I was a toddler was [name]Lise[/name]. It is a nice lullaby and my favourite book, so my doll was [name]Lise[/name] too. I still like the name, but prefer [name]Liesel[/name] now. Culla, Rosilda, [name]Lisabet[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Esmeralda[/name], [name]Cosette[/name], [name]Fantine[/name], Eponine, [name]Eowyn[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Amy[/name] & [name]Beth[/name] from books, [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Vivien[/name], [name]Rita[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] & [name]Marilyn[/name] from movies (I watched a lot of old Hollywood movies!). Name I just loved: [name]Natasha[/name]!
It is funny how we all seemed to love girl’s names more than boy’s names?! I hated [name]Jennifer[/name] but loved [name]Jenny[/name]. I also loved [name]Samantha[/name] thanks to Who’s the [name]Boss[/name]. I loved the name [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Anne[/name] (did we all read the Babysitter’s Club?). I loved [name]Will[/name] for a girl. At one point I was convinced I was going to have three daughters: [name]Sapphire[/name], [name]September[/name] and [name]Sky[/name].
For boys names I loved [name]William[/name], [name]Dominique[/name], [name]Lucifer[/name] and [name]Damian[/name].
I still love [name]Samantha[/name], [name]Damian[/name], [name]September[/name] and [name]William[/name]. I still love [name]Lucifer[/name], but the bible ruined that name forever.
I loved [name]Stacey[/name] and [name]Dawn[/name]. (I still dislike [name]Mallory[/name] because of BSC…why did everything bad happen to that poor character!)
[name]Violet[/name] from Boxcar Children books
Adanya, have never figured out where I got this one
[name]Wisteria[/name], heard it at a flower shop and thought it was really pretty
[name]Dakota[/name], [name]Virginia[/name], and [name]Georgia[/name] from my state name phase
