Hello, name berries!
I recently played the video game Undertale, and it was fantastic. I was also very surprised with how well the characters were named.
The main character’s real name is Frisk, which is a made-up name, yet to me it sounds like an adorable name that can work with all genders.
Another name that amazed me was Asriel ([name_m]AH[/name_m]-zree-el). It’s a mix of the names “Toriel” and “Asgore”, which don’t sound too good, but Asriel blew me away.
There was also a character named Undyne, which is meant to sound like “undying” and I loved that one too.
I am familiar with the game, and I know for a fact that the developer ([name_u]Toby[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]) meant for Frisk to be non-binary (Frisk has no assigned gender). And that’s why they chose Frisk. Because it’s cute on both genders.
I also like Asriel/Asreal. I don’t mind Toriel and Undyne. Although I prefer [name_f]Undine[/name_f] (which is pronounced slightly different btw)
And I actually really like Alphys! Although I would prefer it on a boy
Frisk is way too much of the English word frisk. I couldn’t see it used on a real person.
Asriel reminds me of [name_m]Azrael[/name_m]. [name_m]Azrael[/name_m] was the name of an angel in Jewish and Muslim tradition who separated the soul from the body upon death. He is sometimes referred to as the [name_u]Angel[/name_u] of Death. [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] is the name of 3 minor characters in the Old Testament.
Undyne looks like a variant spelling of [name_f]Undine[/name_f]. [name_f]Undine[/name_f] is derived from Latin unda meaning “wave”. I prefer the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Ondine[/name_f].
I’m not familiar with the game, but I don’t like any of the names. Especially Frisk. To me it isn’t cute. It’s more like, “I got arrested and the cop had to Frisk me.” Not cute.
