Hello all I’m new here. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Jayne[/name_f] and I have a 10 year old daughter named [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. I am currently unexpectedly 28 weeks pregnant with my second child. We don’t know this babies gender and aren’t really sure where to go name wise.
[name_u]Rae[/name_u]'s picks:
[name_m]Eli[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m] (the name of her first boyfriend when she was 6)
[name_m]Myles[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
What do you all think of the name choices? We were quite unprepared. After several miscarriages over the last 8 years we just thought that [name_u]Raven[/name_u] would be our only blessing.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites would be [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] (I like that both your name & your daughter have an e n/ n e at the end, and it would be nice if you all matched
And [name_m]Eli[/name_m] &/or [name_m]Colin[/name_m] for a boy. [name_m]Colin[/name_m] & [name_u]Raven[/name_u] sound very nice together.
Also [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] would be a little matchy, but cute matchy-could also use [name_f]Amber[/name_f] for that same effect, but I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] much, much more. Plus they’re both grownup, rich colors.
I think [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is such a gorgeous, mature sounding name that I felt like a [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], [name_f]Emmalynn[/name_f] or [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] would be too young to match it.
One girl from each list:
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] girl overall:
Definitely-by-far [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. It’s a sweet name, not too trendy or popular, and offsets [name_u]Raven[/name_u] really well.
One boy from each list:
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_m]Weston[/name_m] (actually [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], but it’s awfully close to [name_u]Raven[/name_u])
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] boy overall:
Tougher, because I like both [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] hits that sweet spot of not being too trendy or popular and offsetting [name_u]Raven[/name_u], though.
Overall, I really prefer your name taste to your husband’s and daughter’s. Everyone had nice choices, though. I have to advise against [name_u]Kayden[/name_u] and [name_f]Kaelyn[/name_f], though. Not attractive names, in my opinion.
[name_f]Allyson[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] are my favs from each list. [name_f]My[/name_f] top pick would be [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] work so well together.
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_m]Weston[/name_m], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Are my boys picks. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is my favorite!
We don’t know what your husband’s name is, but with
[name_f]Jayne[/name_f] & [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
I’d pick: [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] - nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]
This would still give you an “n” sound within the name, without overdoing the family’s “n” endings… plus, you will have then combined both your favorites.
You have an innumerable amount of combos from all 3 of your boys lists! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are: [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Weston[/name_m]. Try:
*Have you ever thought of the name [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] for a boy? it actually means “raven” and goes along with your “n” endings and seems to run along the same style as your name list.
Congrats to you on your pregnancy and welcome to Nameberry. Personally, I would avoid another name that ends the same way with [name_u]Raven[/name_u] (eg. [name_f]Allyson[/name_f], [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] etc) as well as those which have a pronounced “ay” sound (eg. [name_f]Kaelyn[/name_f], [name_u]Kayden[/name_u]). From your lists, I think these names would be good options without being too matchy. [name_f]My[/name_f] faves are bolded below.
[name_u]Raven[/name_u] sounds nice with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_m]Colin[/name_m], & [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] & [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] the best, though
Girls:
I love [name_f]Allyson[/name_f]. I also love [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] but as nicknames. [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] or [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. I find [name_f]Molly[/name_f] mismatched with [name_u]Raven[/name_u] and I dislike [name_f]Amber[/name_f]. I don’t like any of the girl names your husband picked…well I like [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] (it’s the name of my cat) but I think it would lead to unnecessary teasing since it’s the first syllable that’s stressed. I like [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] best from your daughters list.
Boys:
[name_u]Love[/name_u] your boy list. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_m]Jakob[/name_m]…in that [name_m]Weston[/name_m], [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] and [name_m]Colin[/name_m] from your husbands boy list. I like [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] but think it’s too close to [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Declan[/name_m] from your daughters boy list. I like [name_m]Eli[/name_m] as a nn for [name_u]Elias[/name_u] or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. [name_m]Myles[/name_m] I’ve never been able to get behind.
Your husband seems to really like [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]. Maybe you could use that as the middle name regardless of gender…
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]
[name_f]Alaina[/name_f] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] (I actually know a woman named this…spelled differently)
Suggestions (besides [name_f]Alaina[/name_f], [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u]):
[name_f]Alexa[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]…nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f], [name_u]Alex[/name_u] or [name_u]Lexi[/name_u]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] or [name_f]Carly[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] ([name_f]Gia[/name_f] or [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] )
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Kiersten[/name_f]
[name_f]Marissa[/name_f]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] ([name_f]Meri[/name_f])
[name_f]Mya[/name_f] (or [name_f]Maia[/name_f] or [name_f]Maya[/name_f])
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]-- I actually super love this with [name_u]Raven[/name_u].
I I would go with [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or something along those lines with a daughter named [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. If your not concerned about making a sibset, all the names you listed are nice (except [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] on a girl, it’s a boys name) though [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] is not my style. [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] sound great together and I love the suggestion [name_u]Corbin[/name_u], meaning “raven”, for a boy.
Thanks all for the suggestions. For those that have asked my husbands name is [name_m]Erik[/name_m].
I’m not 100% sold on [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. Seems to masculine to me. I do like [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] and I brought it up to [name_m]Erik[/name_m] and he said he likes it too.
We may make [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] a middle name. It is a name that [name_m]Erik[/name_m] has ALWAYS loved. It was his choice for Ravens name had she been a boy.
Oh, it’s awesome that you both like [name_u]Corbin[/name_u]! It’s one of my [name_m]FAVORITE[/name_m] names of all time and because of its meaning and style, thought it would be a good direction for you if you were stumped (Bonus: it’s very similar to your husband’s favorite [name_m]Colin[/name_m]!)
[name_m]Erik[/name_m] and I have been bouncing around names and have decided that [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] will be the babies middle name whether a boy or girl.
I still like
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] - as a stand alone name
[name_f]Lainey[/name_f] - as a stand alone name
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] - thanks for the suggestions
[name_u]Reese[/name_u] - a name suggested by a friend
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
Hubby still likes N names but I told him that if we use [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] as a middle name it will be too wordy. He has made some concessions.
He likes
[name_f]Kendra[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Kayla[/name_f] (a compromise from kaelyn)
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_u]Rae[/name_u] still likes
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f]
But asked if I would put
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
On the list.
For boys my fave is a suggestion. It’s [name_u]Corbin[/name_u]. But then [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] seems like a mouthful to me.
We also all like
[name_m]Myles[/name_m]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m] - as a stand alone name
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (suggested by my grandma)
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] but I think it’s way too close to [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
I’m thinking we may just go with [name_u]Corbin[/name_u].
I think [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] is nice but I agree that [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] is a bit of a mouthful. What about [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_m]Erik[/name_m]?
I love [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] Think that goes fab with [name_u]Raven[/name_u] …
[name_f]Lainey[/name_f] is nice too…
What about [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] Rayn ( Switching ryan around so you don’t have two ‘in’ ending names)
Or [name_u]Corben[/name_u] [name_u]Rylan[/name_u]/d There is [name_m]Corvin[/name_m] too but that means ‘raven’ like [name_u]Korbin[/name_u] means ‘raven haired’.
Other suggestions for you

[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Talon[/name_m] **
[name_m]Tobin[/name_m] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] ** ( [name_u]Love[/name_u] this!! also could have [name_m]Erik[/name_m] as a middle here cos it has [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] in the name essentially - so could call as a nickname - [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] spelt Rion)
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] [name_m]Dante[/name_m] **/ [name_m]Donte[/name_m] ([name_u]Love[/name_u] this with [name_u]Raven[/name_u])
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
Flecther
[name_m]Preston[/name_m]
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the names [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] for a girl. Depending on your last name, I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] sound nice with [name_u]Raven[/name_u].
For boys from your list, I like [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Ashton[/name_u], and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. Maybe [name_m]Connor[/name_m] or [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]?
Congrats!
I am just joining this thread, and I have to say a huge congrats for this unexpected pregnancy. As someone who struggled TTC and has friends going through the same, I am so happy for you.
Did you know that Daisies can grow even in winter? I think that makes it a beautiful choice. [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is such a distinct choice that I hope you choose something similarly uncommon for this child. Your DD1’s choices are cute, but they sound like all the girls and boys she knows at school!
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] or [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].
I don’t think you need to worry about the clunky n endings, mns are rarely ever spoken aloud or even known to many outside a family.
