Unique but Classic name for Lara Mariel's sister...help!

We are expecting our second daughter in [name]May[/name]. Our first daughter’s name is [name]Lara[/name] [name]Mariel[/name]. Last name starts with Des____.

Here is our list of ideas so far. Any thoughts on these names, middle name ideas or other suggestions appreciated! Thank you!

[name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Wendell[/name]
[name]Martine[/name]
[name]Helene[/name]
[name]Ellen[/name]/[name]Elin[/name]

I really like [name]Helene[/name] with [name]Lara[/name] [name]Mariel[/name]. I am stuck on [name]Helena[/name] [name]Agnes[/name] as a combo right now, so I like the idea of [name]Helene[/name] [name]Agnes[/name] (especially if [name]Agnes[/name] is said the French way, ahn-YES). [name]Helene[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] is pretty, too.

What about [name]Genevieve[/name]/[name]Ginevra[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], or [name]Ophelia[/name]?

Good luck!

I also like the French pronunciation of [name]Agnes[/name]. Thanks for the suggestions! Looking forward to more ideas/suggestions from others too! -KC

[name]Gretchen[/name]
[name]Fleur[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Alessandra[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Elisabetta[/name]
[name]Yasmine[/name]

I like [name]Gretchen[/name], thanks for the suggestions! Anyone have ideas/thoughts about the names on our list (these are the names out of MANY, that the husband has said maybe to!) I’m adding some nickname ideas, any thoughts?

[name]Corinne[/name] (nn -[name]Cora[/name])
[name]Wendell[/name] (nn -[name]Wendy[/name])
[name]Martine[/name]
[name]Helene[/name]
[name]Ellen[/name]/[name]Elin[/name]
[name]Gretchen[/name] (nn -[name]Greta[/name]…does this work?)

[name]Lara[/name] [name]Mariel[/name] is very pretty! From your list, I like [name]Corinne[/name] the best. [name]Martine[/name] has similarities with both [name]Lara[/name] and [name]Mariel[/name] so I find it too matchy. [name]Wendell[/name] is too unisex, [name]Ellen[/name]/[name]Elin[/name] seem kind of bland next to [name]Lara[/name], [name]Gretchen[/name] is somewhat harsh and [name]Helene[/name] is ok. Here are other suggestions.

[name]Justine[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Mathilde[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Sidonie[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Clio[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Sonia[/name]
[name]Aline[/name]
[name]Tania[/name]

Thanks for your comment [name]Mischa[/name]! I love [name]Sylvie[/name] from your list, adding it to mine to discuss with my husband tonight. I think it flows well with our names and last name.

Now I just need to think of some middle name combinations for the several names we like. For our first daughter, we gave her a variation of my mother’s name ([name]Mary[/name]) to honor her. Any thoughts on if our second daughter will feel left out if she doesn’t have a family middle name? If anyone has insight or experience with this let me know. We weren’t planning to honor any other family members, but would be open to it.

Thanks! -KC

Discussed names again…here is the updated list that both my husband and I like, still looking for new ideas to talk about, so please chime in! Also middle name discussion is still open. Any thoughts on previous post about first daughter’s middle name being after family, but no plans to do the same for second daughter?

[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Martine[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Helene[/name]

Potential middle name ideas: [name]Grey[/name], [name]Linden[/name], [name]Sage[/name] and looking for others.

Thanks! KC

I love [name]Sylvie[/name] and [name]Helene[/name] with [name]Lara[/name] [name]Mariel[/name]! Very pretty. [name]How[/name] do you say [name]Helene[/name]? I’ve heard it said several ways. I also think [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name] would make stunning combos!

I’m personally not a huge fan of using a family name for one child and not for the other… all of my siblings have family names except for me, and I’ve always kind of wished my parents would have used something more meaningful for my MN than [name]Marie[/name]. Still, my first son will probably have a name with no family significance, even though all my girls definitely will and my other sons likely will… I don’t think it’s the end of the world if one child has a family name and the other doesn’t. I think it’d be nice if your second daughter had a MN with some meaning to you, though…

Good luck!

[name]Sylvie[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Martine[/name] - makes me think of a martini :
[name]Corinne[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Helene[/name] - [name]Love[/name] but I do think pronunciation will confuse people. Might go with [name]Helena[/name] (OK, there are several prns there, but they all “make sense”)

I agree with another poster, [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Helene[/name] is lovely! Also like [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]. Here are a few more I think you might like

[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Odette[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Therese[/name] (ter-EZZ)
[name]Colette[/name]

I do think it’s better to have a family connection in both names if possible. It can be creative like your [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Mariel[/name] connection of course.

Good luck!

My sister has a family name (grandma’s fn) in her mn spot and my brother has the same fn as our dad. I do not have a family name in the first or middle name spot and it has never bothered me at all. Actually, at 34 years old, this is the first time that i have ever actually thought about it!

I like [name]Corinne[/name] but think that maybe [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Lara[/name] are a bit matchy. I remember my mom calling one of our names up the stairs when we were growing up and, when we heard was the long e sound at the end, my brother and I would both shout, “Who?!” and Mom would have to call out again…I remember her getting a bit exasperated with the whole process! Or, later, as teens, we would both ignore it, hoping it was the sibling that was being called for! : )

[name]Sylvie[/name] and [name]Lara[/name] are cute together.
I also like [name]Helene[/name] (hell - N) and [name]Lara[/name] together.
[name]Ellen[/name] is cute - I am saying ‘[name]Lara[/name] and [name]Ellen[/name]’ out loud sort and they sort of run together a bit but I do not think that there is anything shocking/strange about them together.

[name]Wendell[/name] sounds masculine to me.

Jesba, thanks for the [name]Simone[/name] suggestion…love it, adding it to the list!

[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name] (agree with aussiesteph that [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Lara[/name] are a bit matchy…I still like the name…struggling)
[name]Helene[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]

I dropped [name]Martine[/name], because I realized that I don’t want to give up the name [name]Martin[/name]/Marten if we have a third child that is a boy (this was the inspiration for the name [name]Martine[/name]).
[name]Wendell[/name] is definitely a masculine name, I still really love it for either a boy (nn [name]Dell[/name]) or girl (nn [name]Wendy[/name]), but as more time has passed and we have discussed, this name is falling down lower on our list of potentials.

liking the name [name]Estelle[/name] also, but probably for a middle name…still haven’t found a family connection that we love for a middle name, but are looking for one.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I love [name]Corinne[/name]. It’s classic, but still modern. Stylish and elegant. I could see a ‘[name]Corinne[/name]’ being anything from a fashion designer to Supreme [name]Court[/name] justice.

[name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Martine[/name] was the combination that stood out the most to me. I think this would go very well with [name]Lara[/name] [name]Mariel[/name] as it has the 2 syllable first name with a similar sense to it and then the mn which starts with M.

I’m loving the name [name]Helene[/name]. My great aunt’s name is [name]Muriel[/name] (close to [name]Mariel[/name]) so I thought I’d tell you her sister’s names… maybe they’ll be in that same style.
[name]Ellen[/name]
[name]Leatha[/name] (pronounced [name]Lee[/name]-thuh - my Grandma’s name and I [name]LOVE[/name] it but my dh thinks it sounds to much like leathal)
[name]Jean[/name]
[name]Leila[/name]

[name]Love[/name] your daughter’s name!
