I’ve loved this family name since the 5th or 6th grade when I first learned of it when completing a family tree project for school. It belonged to my great great grandmother. Her name was, “Altie”.

Like the name [name_f]Allie[/name_f] but with a “T” thrown in. Apparently her name was [name_f]Alta[/name_f] but she only ever went by [name_f]Altie[/name_f]. I love that it is a short and cute name (but not too cutesy).

What are your thoughts? I worry about mispronunciation. Did you read the “Al” and assume it was pronounced as in “Alan” or “Altar”? [name_f][/name_f]Thank you!!!
She pronounced it like “Alan” or “Allie” not like the “All” sound. I worry baby girl may not appreciate having to correct everyone on the pronunciation of her name her whole life [name_f][/name_f] that is my only hesitation. I appreciate everyone giving their feedback on how they would initially pronounce it, it’s helpful for me!
[name_f]Altie[/name_f] is super interesting! [name_f][/name_f] I did say all-tee in my head like “altar”, I’ve met a couple Latina Altagracias so the pronunciation for that was in my head. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Altie[/name_f] is cute either way, though, and family names are special! [name_f][/name_f] It also sort of reminds me of a feminine version of [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f] The short and sweet -ie ending feels very vintage and in style; it might be confused with other similar names that are either popular or gaining popularity (like [name_f]Allie[/name_f], [name_m]Alfie[/name_m], [name_m]Albie[/name_m], etc.), but I think the meaning trumps that! [name_f][/name_f] I would love to meet a little [name_f]Altie[/name_f]!
If it helps, I have to correct people / tell them how to pronounce my name semi regularly. It doesn’t bother me, though, because I appreciate having a unique name.
I love this! [name_f][/name_f]I’m a sucker for a family name, but I do really like this. I read as ALL-TEE, like [name_f]Alma[/name_f] but with the tee ending.
[name_f]Altie[/name_f] is cute! [name_f][/name_f] I did at first assume that it was Al-tee as it [name_m]Alan[/name_m] and not the word ‘all’. [name_f][/name_f] Is that right, or is it more like the word all? [name_f][/name_f] I think either sounds nice, but I can see the hesitation. [name_f][/name_f] I think that Al-tee (like Alan) is more intuitive, so if that’s right then no worries!
[name_f][/name_f]
Side note, I know an [name_f]Alma[/name_f] nn [name_f]Alli[/name_f] (Alma being a family name), and I’ve always felt a little off about it because I want to say [name_f]Alma[/name_f] ‘All-muh’ & [name_f]Alli[/name_f] ‘Al-ee’. [name_f][/name_f] But when her mom calls her [name_f]Alma[/name_f], it’s Al-muh, so I guess that’s right just like [name_f]Alta[/name_f]!
