A guilty pleasure name is a name you probably wouldn’t use but you keep on your mental list of names because you think it sounds nice or is too cool. I adore these names and actually some of them I am brave enough to use, like the name Loyal. Any unique name is very much appreciated!
A few of mine are, as I already said, Loyal, True, Brighton, Halo, Forest, Ares, Paris, Bear, Ocean, West and Lyric
I love the name [name]Forrest[/name], so earthy and handsome sounding, and [name]January[/name] is a beautiful name, although having a boy nicknamed [name]Jan[/name] kind of puts me off a wee bit. [name]Joaquin[/name] is a name I’ve been hearing alot lately and it is growing on me… Ahh so many names so little time
I love all of these but I would never want to saddle a child with one of them. Most are either too tied to one character/person or too inviting to bullies. Some are just a bit too far out there and don’t fit in with my style at all.
[name]Sherlock[/name], [name]Lancelot[/name] and Galahad for me too. I also love [name]Draco[/name], [name]Severus[/name] and [name]Heathcliff[/name], but I can’t imagine giving a child a name with such a specific (and in some cases not so nice) associations.
@frustratedauthor: [name]Ransom[/name] and [name]Lazarus[/name] for me, too! [name]Love[/name] 'em! Only I really want to have a son named [name]Ransom[/name]. I think I’d use it if my future husband likes it. Some others (these are not in alphabetical order, as I’m simply running through my random list):
[name]Reuel[/name]
[name]Bran[/name]
[name]Remus[/name]
Othniel
[name]Temple[/name]
[name]Uri[/name]
[name]Mortimer[/name]
[name]Lucien[/name] (it has a couple of acceptable pronunciations, and I can’t decide which I like better!)
[name]Manly[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name]
[name]Haven[/name] (very big guilty pleasure boy’s name, as it’s the name of my youngest sister!)
Turlough (prn TUR-lock, nn [name]Tully[/name])
Resolved
[name]Tierney[/name]
I might consider a few of these as middle names, but probably not as firsts.
I forgot [name]Jocelyn[/name], which has been a guilty pleasure boy’s name for me since I read [name]Elizabeth[/name] Goudge’s novel, “A City of Bells.” The protagonist, named [name]Jocelyn[/name], is a young soldier discharged after being wounded who finds a new life selling books in a little English cathedral town.
I have somewhat the same feeling for [name]Ashley[/name] (I’ve actually known two guys named [name]Ashley[/name]), [name]Hilary[/name] and [name]Whitney[/name], but [name]Jocelyn[/name] is my favorite.
I am not too afraid to use many boy names but [name]Pilot[/name] and [name]Atlas[/name] might be a little over the top. [name]Dune[/name] and [name]North[/name] can’t be used with our last name.
@morganalefaye- Interesting that you put [name]Fitzwilliam[/name]; it’s my favourite boys’ name and I would definitely use it, or [name]Darcy[/name], on a future child! Then again I’m only a teenager so that’s years away… I read a book when a mother who loved [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name] named her son [name]Darcy[/name], that’s where I got the idea.
