Perhaps I haven’t branched out enough and met enough people, but many people that I used to go to school with, even back to kindergarten, have names that I have never seen on anyone else. Of course they float around nameberry and maybe these names are common where you are from, but here are a few I found interesting:
[name_f]Olwyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
Guideon
[name_m]Obi[/name_m] (his brothers name was pronounced like EBay, but I don’t know the spelling)
[name_f]Lani[/name_f]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
Thinavysen (goes by Thina, pronounced tee-nah) and Thira
Sengmolika (goes by Momo)
Danius (he says his full name is Lithuanian and is pronounced Dahn-u-skus, but again I don’t have the spelling)
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] (on a boy)
[name_f]Fan[/name_f]-[name_u]Tai[/name_u]
Eirwen
Namaste
[name_m]Guy[/name_m]
[name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] - I don’t think this is at all strange now, but in my tiny home town when I was 13 it was all “WOAH!” haha
People I knew in elementary through high school… ('50s and '60s)
Girls:
Willamette
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (she pronounced it EE-lee-ah)
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] (very unusual for a girl in the '50s)
[name_f]Princess[/name_f] & [name_f]Queen[/name_f] (sisters)
Harawese
Richmona
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]
[name_f]Bonne[/name_f]
Tiajuana
[name_f]Ina[/name_f]
[name_f]Luwanna[/name_f]
Idelia
[name_f]Amira[/name_f]
Oh you reminded me of the three sisters in my high school [name_f]Diamond[/name_f], [name_f]Tiara[/name_f] and [name_f]Princess[/name_f]. I always felt bad that their parents gave them such a blatant sibset theme.
I had a friend in preschool named [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f]. It wasn’t weird to me then for some reason, but now I find it a little odd. I also knew a [name_f]Santana[/name_f] (girl), Rayann, [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (This doesn’t seem like an odd name to me but I’ve never met another one), and [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f].
[name_m]Fidelis[/name_m] (girl)
Nuno
Ului (you-loo-ee)
[name_m]Angelo[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] (not odd but I’ve never met another [name_u]Jude[/name_u])
[name_f]Rina[/name_f] ([name_f]Ree[/name_f]-na)
[name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]
[name_m]Omar[/name_m]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ramzi[/name_m]
[name_u]Glenn[/name_u]
[name_m]Olaf[/name_m]- I seriously went to school with a kid named this. Never saw it again until this year when a Disney movie used it.
[name_m]Fabrizio[/name_m]- I think this is the top unusual name. Never heard this used anywhere ever except this one person.
[name_m]Tristian[/name_m]
[name_m]Dalton[/name_m]
Girls:
[name_f]Antonella[/name_f]
[name_u]Dominique[/name_u]
[name_u]Davin[/name_u]
[name_u]Zion[/name_u]- Never cared for this one, but it suited her.
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
[name_m]Lennon[/name_m]- As you might have guessed, parents were huge Beatles fans
I don’t consider these off the wall or anything, but its fun to see how many of these names skyrocketed in popularity when all of them were the only ones in the school district.
