Unique Naming Dilemma, Help!

Some good friends of mine just told me they were going to be having twins! Which is thrilling news as they were told they might not have children. Now they’re going to be having a little boy and a little girl and the dad wants his son to have his name, [name]Alexander[/name], which they both love and it’s tradition in his family.
The dilemma is these friends names are [name]Alexander[/name] & [name]Alexandra[/name] ([name]Alex[/name] & [name]Ally[/name]) and they are worried that if they aren’t able to have more children their little daughter is going to feel like the odd man out in a family of [name]Alex[/name]'s. So they’re trying to come up with a name to tie in their daughters name to the rest of the family without being too matchy.

So far they’ve come up with [name]Sasha[/name] & [name]Annabeth[/name] (the mother used to go by [name]Ally[/name]-beth when she was younger) what do you berries think? Are they too matchy? Can you think of any other ways to tie in their little girls name?

I would absolutely advise them to move [name]Alexander[/name] to the little boy’s middle name slot. In fact, they could consider male [name]Alexander[/name] variants as well: [name]Lex[/name], [name]Zander[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], Iskander, [name]Sasha[/name], [name]Aleks[/name], Andros… anything. I would definitely give both children non-[name]Alexander[/name]-derived names as firsts.

For the little girl, more international variants, plus some ideas based on meaning. [name]Alexander[/name] means “defender,” more or less.

[name]Sandrine[/name]
[name]Zandra[/name]
[name]Alastriona[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]
[name]Alessa[/name]
[name]Shura[/name]
[name]Sassa[/name]
[name]Lesya[/name]

[name]Aminta[/name] (“defender, validator”)
[name]Cassandra[/name] (possibly a very old variant of [name]Alexander[/name])
Clarimond (“shining defender”)
Lysandra (“man’s defender”)
Olasia, [name]Ritsa[/name], [name]Ola[/name] - old Greek spinoffs from [name]Alexander[/name]

That’s a lot of [name]Alex[/name]! But if that’s what they want, let’s think…

[name]Sasha[/name] is weird to me, because having an [name]Alexander[/name] and a [name]Sasha[/name] feels like having two children with the same name since [name]Sasha[/name] is a nn for [name]Alexander[/name]. Since mom is [name]Ally[/name], maybe a daughter could be another version of [name]Ally[/name]…so it’s like they have two [name]Alexes[/name] and two [name]Allys[/name] instead of 3 [name]Alexes[/name] and an oddball.

[name]Allison[/name]
[name]Allegra[/name]
[name]Alba[/name]
[name]Alaina[/name]
[name]Allyssa[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]

Thanks! I know it’s a lot of [name]Alex[/name]'s, but that’s what they’re looking for. I love the idea of [name]Cassandra[/name], so similar to [name]Alexandra[/name] but still different enough to stand on its own. And I’ve suggested using a variant of [name]Alexander[/name] to them, but they’re pretty dead set on using [name]Alexander[/name] for their boy (It’s been the name of the first son for several generations I guess and they don’t want to break the chain…) And I personally love [name]Alice[/name] & [name]Allegra[/name]! Thanks for the input, hopefully there’s something on here they will like!

It’s a LOT of [name]Alex[/name]- in one family, but have they considered [name]Alexina[/name]? I saw that in something historic I was reading.

[name]Alessandra[/name] (a spin of [name]Alexandra[/name])
[name]Andrea[/name] (nn [name]Andie[/name]) -
[name]Calandra[/name] (nn [name]Callie[/name])
[name]Calliope[/name] (nn [name]Callie[/name])
[name]Natalie[/name] / [name]Natalie[/name] (nn [name]Tallie[/name])
[name]Zandra[/name] / [name]Zara[/name]

I think the name [name]Lexi[/name] would be perfect for her. [name]Lexi[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is awesome too. She would fit right in!

[name]Lexi[/name] is a very cute idea, I love that suggestion!
I would strongly encourage them to move [name]Alexander[/name] to the mn position. It would be ok if it was just the father’s or just the mother’s name but goodness [name]Alex[/name], [name]Alex[/name], and [name]Alex[/name]? I couldn’t do that. I definitely think that leaves the girl out. Curious to see what they decide. =]
