Unisex names on boys - fresh or dated?

First of all, I live in the UK, so there may be some regional influence on this. I’ve come across a few boys recently with unisex names that have trended towards the girls side in recent years (more in the States, though I’ve encountered British females with all these names) and I’ve actually started warming towards the idea. Using [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] on a girl is a bit dated to me, but on a boy it seems quite handsome and fresh.

What other names out there would fit into that category, and do you think they’re usable for a boy these days?

So far, I’ve got:

[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Taylor[/name_u]
[name_u]Casey[/name_u]

I would say [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] are def dated. I also love [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] for a boy, and I’m intrigued by [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] (never met a male [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]).

[name_u]Casey[/name_u] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] are totally gone to the girls for me (as well as dated).

Another one I love is [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]!

[name_u]Sidney[/name_u] would fit too.

I’ll add [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] (my own name), [name_u]Robin[/name_u], and [name_u]Shannon[/name_u].

Thanks for the suggestions, I knew there had to be many more out there. I agree with [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] seeming more dated than the rest, actually - maybe because they were more popular.

I didn’t think of [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], though it’s a very good one and fits in well with the vintage trend. I actually work with a couple of male [name_m]Robins[/name_m], don’t know why that one slipped my mind either - maybe because I think of [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] and [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] as the more common female variants. [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] I don’t think were ever that popular on boys over here for it to ‘go back’ as it were, I think they were more popular in the southern US. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is an interesting one, but I’ve always had a soft spot for it on the girls.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] are names that are trending upward in girls, but still useable for boys, in my opinion. From your list, I like [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], and I like a previous suggestions of [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]. I met a male [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] recently.

Some others:
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] (this sounds much more dated on a girl than a boy)
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] (though I’ve heard this is solidly boy in the UK)
[name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is another one that’s gone to the girls, but I secretly like it on boys.

As you can tell from my signature, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] on a boy and if I had a baby boy tomorrow, that’s what I would name him.

I think “unisex” names tend to sound fresh on boys but dated on girls. (I don’t even like the term “unisex”-to me it’s usually just a term to justify slapping boy names on girls.) I love the following on boys: [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Shannon[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Casey[/name_u], and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] too but I think that name truly is unisex.

[name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] (silently seething at the underhand manner in which the girls stole this one) and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], I think are quite fresh for boys - I would love to meet a [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] or a [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] (sigh) and already know a few Ashleys. I think you’re right though, it seems to be different in [name_f]England[/name_f] - I have met few girls who subscribe to the “girls with boys names” trend that seems so popular in [name_u]America[/name_u].
