In general, I prefer strictly girl or boy’s names, but not always. I like certain unisex names, but they have to actually be unisex. For example, I like unisex nicknames ([name]Quinn[/name], for example, can be a nickname for [name]Quintina[/name] just as easily as [name]Quintus[/name]) and names that are different genders in different cultures (like [name]Rosario[/name]) but I absolutely HATE boys names on girls, especially the -son enders. To me, it’s abuse of the etymology. If you called your daughter “son,” it would be an incorrect use of the language. People wouldn’t understand you properly. I don’t think it should be different for names.
[name]Sam[/name]- Short form of [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Samantha[/name], [name]Samson[/name], [name]Samara[/name], etc., so unisex. On it’s own, I think it’s a dog’s name.
[name]Alexis[/name]- I actually like this for boys, and it’s a diminutive so it is unisex, but it’s totally unusable because of it’s popularity on girls.
[name]Kerry[/name]- for some reason, I have a really bad reaction to this name. I’ve known boys and girls with the name in a myriad of spellings and they were all nice people, but for some reason I hate the name. It can be a nickname, though, so my vote is unisex.
[name]Joey[/name]- again, a nickname. [name]Don[/name]'t like it for anyone by itself
[name]Jo[/name]- would assume girl because of the spelling, but again, a nickname, so unisex. [name]Don[/name]'t much care for it on its own.
[name]Bobi[/name]- hate it for either, but valid for both. I’d assume girl because of the spelling.
[name]Teddy[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like it for a girl, but unisex because it’s a nickname.
[name]Jamie[/name]- Technically a nickname for [name]James[/name], so male, but I’m sure there are feminine names it could be a nickname for.
[name]Hunter[/name]- God, I hate this name. One of my top ten most hated names, probably. [name]Imagine[/name] if your little son [name]Hunter[/name] grew up and became a vegan [name]PETA[/name] supporter? WHY THE NEED FOR SUCH A VIOLENT NAME? Hunters kill things. Why would you want your baby to have a name that suggests murder? I just don’t get it. And it’s even worse for a girl
