Weirdly enough, I love a lot of unisex names - as long as they are used on boys. I can’t explain why for all of them, but I definitely feel as though ‘son’ names (Mc/[name_m]Mac[/name_m] names included) work best on a boy, because they do, traditionally mean 'son of _________".
My two favourites (top contenders if I were to have a boy today) are [name_u]Addison[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I know that, with the sexism debate - giving your daughter a boy’s name is a no no with most users - is giving your son a name that’s used more on girls than boys a no go too?
I seriously love [name_u]Addison[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] together, I love everything about the names together - but, I’m scared that everyone would just assume that I was talking about two little girls when I mention that my children are [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_u]Addison[/name_u].
[name_m]How[/name_m] bad would it be to name two little boys [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other suggestions for more unisex type names? I love [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy too.
[name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] are also on my list for boys! I don’t think it’s bad at all! Why not boys need to use those names too. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let others opinions worry you I have: [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] (Mn due to my cousin just used this on girl), [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], [name_u]Madison[/name_u] on my boy’s list as well.
I think [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]'s all girl for me because I have a few friends named [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]/[name_f]Ainslee[/name_f] who are girls (apparently it was popular in my area in 1995 :P). I love [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] on a boy though!
BTW: I love [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] on a boy - I know a few girl [name_f]Brooklin[/name_f]'s and [name_f]Brookelynn[/name_f]'s, but the Beckhams did well with their choice in [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] for a boy!
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] aren’t bad for boys at all! I actually think they sound very gentleman-like.
My name is kind of unisex though it is still super uncommon for a girl: [name_u]Drew[/name_u] [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]. I love it even though sometimes people think I’m a boy before they meet me in person.
I prefer “unisex” names on boys instead of girls, since for the most part they were originally male names or, like you said, surnames that mean “[name_m]SON[/name_m] of _____”.
I think, yes, people will assume [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] are girls because they are used primarily as feminine names these days. But, who cares!? Either your sons will be confident enough to pull them off, or they could always choose to go by a nickname or their middle name. [name_u]Addison[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] could easily be A.J., [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] could go by [name_m]Hal[/name_m].
That’s where I stand with this - I like them on boys more for the most part ([name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], etc can stay on the pink side). That’s a good point, haha I think the comment about [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] no longer being viable for a boy on NB’s data sort of started my questioning.
