Unmistakably English Names

We found out we’re having another boy today  We’re so excited but completely stumped on which way to go with names. My DH really would like a name that is very obviously English (we reside in both US and [name_f]England[/name_f]). Our other boys are Ke11an Chr1stopher and Gav1n [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. I would prefer to steer away from names than end in -n but if we find something we love, I’m still open to it.

Some names that have come up from family names are
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]

Of those, I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] I’m not sure about those because it would mean a single syllable first and last name. [name_m]Liam[/name_m] I like but afraid it’s too close in sound to his older brother.

What are others that we haven’t thought of? I personally like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] but I don’t believe either would qualify as “unmistakably English” (which seems to be my DH’s main condition this go around).

All are great choices. I’m American, but when I think of [name_f]England[/name_f]: [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_m]Clive[/name_m], [name_m]Alfred[/name_m]/[name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_m]Edmond[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. Of your choices, [name_m]William[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Liam[/name_m]) and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] are great! I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is more like a syllable and a half…should work well w/a monosyllabic surname. Best wishes!

Well I like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] but [name_m]Asher[/name_m] doesn’t feel particularly British at all and [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] was Hebrew/Biblical now diluted to just popular American.

Some of these are a bit clunky/dusty but I like names like that and of course names that are super popular in both places don’t feel as British?

I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. My family specifically attacked [name_m]Henry[/name_m] as “too British” if that helps.

Other ideas
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m]
[name_m]Gareth[/name_m] (Maybe too close to [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], I just like both)
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Crispin[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_m]Alastair[/name_m]/[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Kingsley[/name_m]
Digory
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Angus[/name_m]
[name_m]Neville[/name_m], [name_m]Nigel[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] or if feeling real brave, [name_m]Eoin[/name_m]. [name_m]Eoin[/name_m] is MN-only material for me but it’s legit.
[name_m]Euan[/name_m]
[name_m]Alan[/name_m], which nobody at all is really using at this point but I secretly like it.
[name_m]Tavish[/name_m]
[name_m]Oisin[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m] - [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is cool but [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] has a similar feel minus some of its popularity?

I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] are “unmistakable,” but [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]George[/name_m] are also quite British. I agree with [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Nigel[/name_m], [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_m]Clive[/name_m] and [name_u]Alfie[/name_u].

Other suggestions:
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Terrance[/name_m]/[name_m]Terrence[/name_m]
[name_m]Piers[/name_m]
[name_m]Royston[/name_m]
[name_m]Dermot[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Gordon[/name_m]

[name_m]Henry[/name_m] I like - a lot in fact - but it’s one my DH has never latched onto. Currently [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] seems to be the combo that my DH and his British counterparts really like. I just cannot jump aboard that ship. I don’t know what it is but I can’t picture a little baby with the name [name_m]George[/name_m].

Of the names suggested so far I do like [name_m]Piers[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_m]Clive[/name_m] but all of those names are one syllable and just won’t work with our last name. Others I like include [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] (isn’t that Scottish?), [name_m]Crispin[/name_m] (DH liked this one) and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] (too close to [name_m]Kellan[/name_m] though).

Figuring out a 3rd boy’s name is tougher than I thought it would be!

Im from [name_f]England[/name_f] so thought if I just note down the names of people I know from the names already given?

[name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Clive[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_m]Alan[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], hamish, graham, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m].

The main men in my life/family are;

[name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]Clive[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], frank, [name_m]Geoffrey[/name_m], [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], thomas, [name_u]James[/name_u], richard, [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Jason[/name_m], [name_u]Shaun[/name_u], leon, [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], shane and jenson.

Names me and my OH are considering;

[name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], [name_m]Clive[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m]/[name_m]Lucas[/name_m].

I hope you find the name you love

I might be wrong having never been to [name_f]England[/name_f] but what sounds right to my ears: [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Burton[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Piers[/name_m] a lot also.
