Unsure about Saskia

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is a name I feel I should love! My dad was born in Saskatchewan, and my mom comes from a Dutch background. It seems like it should be a perfect fit, but I have some concerns.

  • Is it too exotic?
  • Should I be bothered that it doesn’t match my naming style?
  • Does it remind you of a Sasquatch? (as a kid I was always called "Lishy-Fishy, and I didn’t like it)

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is lovely! It seems like it has the perfect balance between very unusual and common. It’s not widely used, but easily pronounced and spelled.
I do not think it is too exotic at all! But that being said, I am fond of exotic names, so I may not be the right one to hear that from ;).
I don’t think you need to worry too much about it being so different from your usual name style. I think it is actually rather beautiful with a lot of your names. I don’t think sibling names have to fit perfectly, I just like if they’re compatible. [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] wouldn’t be my favourite. But [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] I think are great together. Most of your names I feel like work with [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], even if they’re not the same style.
I would not have made the Sasquatch connection if you hadn’t mentioned it! I really don’t think thats a big deal!

I am wanting to say I really like [name_f]Saskia[/name_f]. The first time it was used in a T.V. series here the ‘little bit better’ daughter -in -law -gave the the name the exact feeling you are pondering over. I never had [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] on my best list for a while after that-so fickle. Now I picture her as gorgeous golden plaited little dutch [name_m]Doll[/name_m]. Possibly a little ‘sassy’ even and I have never questioned what a lovely name it is. Yes it is a beautiful balance between over popular and exotic and I agree with all that the PP has said.

My little sister is called [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] and my whole family loves it. Its exotic but everyone loves it here (We are Australian).
I recon it is a lovely name!!

For once, I actually have experience with a name! One of my friends is called [name_f]Saskia[/name_f].

  • Is it too exotic?
Nope. I don’t think so. It’s easy to say and spell, and becomes quite normal after a while. It stands out in a good way different but not weird or over the top.

  • Should I be bothered that it doesn’t match my naming style?
Haha, no again. I think as long as you love it, and it isn’t too match sound wise with any other name you plan on using, it’s fine.

  • Does it remind you of a Sasquatch? (as a kid I was always called "Lishy-Fishy, and I didn’t like it)
Not really. The [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] I know got Saskatoon, but not Sasquatch I don’t think.

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is a beautiful name! It feels artsy/creative and European to me. [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is pretty unusual, but has familiar sounds found in more common names ([name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Kiara[/name_f], etc.), so shouldn’t be too hard for people to wrap their heads around. Are [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] your other kids’ names? It’s more unexpected than those, and the rest of your list, but has the same preppy yet down-to-earth feel to me, so goes well with them. It has never made me think of a Sasquatch, so I wouldn’t worry about that association.
