So, while I was looking through at a few names that are similar to what is on my list, I found quite a few that I like, but I’m not sure of as a proper name. I know it sounds pretty silly that I’m unsure of these, when I love [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] as stand alone names, but, these are a bit clunkier/dustier.
Which ones do you think could work?
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f]/[name_f]Essie[/name_f] (maybe a NN for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_u]Connie[/name_u]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] (my grandmother’s name, not entirely sold on it, or her MN, [name_u]June[/name_u])
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_u]Patsy[/name_u] (maybe I’m just being weird in liking this one…)
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]/[name_f]Mollie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] - so cute and 1950s but my main association is now the character in Girls, unfortunately.
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - adorable, I definitely prefer it to [name_f]Edith[/name_f] but I sort of love [name_f]Enid[/name_f]. I have a friend called [name_f]Edie[/name_f], her little sister is a [name_f]Dora[/name_f].
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] - reminds me of the singer, but cute.
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - I’ve loved this for ages. I know a [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] which is so pretty too.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - again, one of my old favourites. I went off it for a while but I still think it’s lovely.
[name_u]Connie[/name_u] - I don’t particularly like this on its own for some reason but I love it’s longer forms.
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - so beautiful.
[name_u]Patsy[/name_u] - there are SO many [name_m]Pats[/name_m]/Patricias/Patricks/Patsys in my family, I surprisingly really like this.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - cute but overly popular here, I like [name_f]Dolores[/name_f]/[name_f]Lolita[/name_f] as a longer form right now.
[name_f]Lula[/name_f] - lovely, a favourite, but I think I still prefer it with [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f].
and ones I don’t feel particularly strongly about…
[name_f]Clarinda[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] to [name_f]Clarinda[/name_f] still. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] is adorable I don’t like the sound of this.
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f]/[name_f]Essie[/name_f] - sound too much like [name_f]Nessie[/name_f] (as in the [name_m]Loch[/name_m] Ness Monster… maybe I was raised too close to [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] though…). I love just [name_f]Bess[/name_f]. I guess they could both work for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].
[name_f]Annie[/name_f] - I feel mutual about.
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] - sweet but where I’m from it’s just an adjective.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] - never really liked, it’s popular for people my age
[name_f]Effie[/name_f] - awkward to say/pronounce. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]/[name_f]Bridie[/name_f] - seem to be really common nicknames in the UK for some reason. I know a couple of each, and only one of them is a [name_f]Brighid[/name_f]. And there’s Birdy the singer (her actual name is [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] - my friend knows her quite well, and she’s got cousins called [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] and [name_m]Ned[/name_m] which are amazing together!).
Can I suggest [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] to you again? I feel like I’m constantly throwing it on you haha but seriously it feels perfect!
Well I’ve known [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_u]Connie[/name_u], [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] as standalone names my whole life, so I think all of those work well. I haven’t heard them before, but [name_f]Clarinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] would work, I think. [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is a possibility. I just always associate it with Orphan [name_f]Annie[/name_f], so it’s very juvenile to me. The others are too nickname-y for my taste.
I adore [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] and it has a link to my name (my mum fell for the name [name_u]Haley[/name_u]/[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] thanks to [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_m]Mills[/name_m], who ended up starring as [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] :P) but on here, it’s gotten nothing but negativity, so I’ve been turned off haha. I want to like [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], but I can’t seem to like it :/. I love [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f] as well, but it feels too awkward to actually be used haha.
