Mariner sounds like you’re trying too hard to be different. I’m a baseball fan so all that I think of is “Seattle Mariners”. You have to love the name but you’re also not the one that has to introduce yourself with it on the playground.
Btw, love jack! What about [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Mariner…? Still different name yet not one used at every introduction.
I am not a fan of Mariner as a first name but I love the suggestion of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Mariner.
Maybe instead of Mariner you could go with [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]? I actually know a [name_u]Sailor[/name_u].
To me, Mariner sounds to much mike [name_f]Marina[/name_f], which is a girl’s name.
It sounds like it would be the name of a boat, not a child. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is lovely. Instead of [name_m]Jack[/name_m], what about [name_m]Jacques[/name_m]?

I think my first thought would be “why?”.
[name_m]Will[/name_m] he be a mariner? Is he from a family of mariners? I know that doesnt have to always apply but without any connection it just sounds very try hard.

I like the word. I can see it as a first name.
The other day I came across the name [name_m]Maro[/name_m]. It doesn’t have a marine meaning but it definitely looks and sounds like it does. It could be a full name or a nickname for Mariner.
What about giving him a more common first name and Mariner as a middle name? Then he can choose to go by whichever he likes.
I’m surprised at the replies from the Berries on here! If [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] are names being chosen by parents, what’s wrong with Mariner? Nothing in my opinion. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Mariner is cool but so is Mariner as a first name. Marinus is fine too. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] your husband comes around to your way of thinking. Good luck!
