We have three children - [name]Eliana[/name] [name]Joy[/name], [name]Timothy[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] and Aaralyn [name]Rayne[/name]. We are interested in meaningful Biblical and/or [name]Christian[/name] names. [name]Eliana[/name] is Hebrew meaning "God has answered. [name]Timothy[/name] is Greek meaning “God honoring” and Aaralyn means “with song” and her Hebrew middle name ([name]Rayne[/name]) means “song of the [name]Lord[/name]” I am not currently expecting another baby, but we are thinking about having another in the future and of course we could be wrong, but we really think if we had another baby it would be a boy. Regardless, say we did… I’m a name nerd so it’s really fun thinking about what we could name him!
I always thought if I had another boy he would be either [name]Isaiah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] or [name]Isaac[/name]. By the time my youngest girl was born all those names were so popular, however that we thought if she was a boy we would use the name [name]Levi[/name]… however now THAT name is super popular too. I don’t want our kids to be known for having really weird names, but I like that they have (in my opinion) beautiful names you don’t hear all that often. [name]Even[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]'s name, though not unique, is not used very often anymore which is nice.
Other names (other than [name]Isaiah[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Levi[/name] which are still names I love) that I like quite a bit (some common, some not) are [name]Liam[/name], [name]Canaan[/name], [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name] (though sadly, our last name starts with G so probably no G names for us), [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Phineas[/name], [name]Finn[/name], [name]Malachi[/name], and [name]Judah[/name]/[name]Jude[/name]
There are many more that I like, but I thought some of you people might be able to help me out. Maybe there are some names I haven’t heard of that would go well with our sibling names… feel free to help me out!
Biblical names that are cool, quirky and usable:
[name]Solomon[/name]- Would fit in well with your other kids
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Abraham[/name]/[name]Abram[/name]- I love [name]Abraham[/name] and wish it was used more, I think it’s due for a come back
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Boaz[/name]- Would also fit in well
[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Jethro[/name], [name]Jericho[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name], and [name]Eliakim[/name] all came to mind. Those are some underused Biblical boy names i like. [name]Jericho[/name] and [name]Eliakim[/name] might be a little too out there next to [name]Timothy[/name], but maybe not with nn’s [name]Rick[/name] and [name]Eli[/name]. And I think [name]Jethro[/name] and [name]Ezekiel[/name] work with [name]Timothy[/name].
I think of [name]Timothy[/name] with other older-generation popular Bible but more [name]Peter[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Paul[/name] which you mostly hear on dads and granddads, but aren’t really all that obscure. Nobody would go “Timma-what?” so I don’t really hear on par with, say, [name]Hezekiah[/name] or Elchanan.
So I don’t know that I’d head for the most ultra-obscure Bible names, or [name]Elijah[/name]/[name]Noah[/name] which have shot to popularity and will pinpoint a decade.
Admittedly I really do love [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Judah[/name], [name]Malachi[/name], and [name]Levi[/name].
Other ideas:
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name] (possibly up and coming though?)
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name]
[name]Joel[/name] - not particularly popular at the moment but not really obscure.
[name]Jedidiah[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Kemuel[/name]
[name]Hanan[/name] - ha-NAHN, “G-d is gracious” an obscure Bible name (and the name of one of my grandfathers). Related to Elchanan but easier to say. Also related to [name]Hannah[/name] and to [name]John[/name].
Raziel - “G-d is my secret” or “my secret is G-d”
I think [name]Joel[/name] and [name]Micah[/name] cross over the best, followed by [name]Ezra[/name]. I honestly love [name]Hanan[/name] and Raziel and [name]Kemuel[/name] but I don’t think they go well with [name]Timothy[/name], except maybe as middles behind a more conventional name?
[name]Timothy[/name] is definitely a more traditional name than [name]Eliana[/name] and Aaralyn, but all three names are legitimate and have long, distinguished histories. I’d say you’re definitely on the right track with the names you’re looking at – I’d peg your style as “offbeat Biblical”.
I particularly like [name]Thaddeus[/name] and [name]Micah[/name] from your list. Oh, and [name]Phineas[/name]! Some more suggestions:

Wow! Thanks to everyone for the awesome suggestions. [name]Thaddeus[/name] is a cool one I hadn’t thought of… also [name]Theo[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name] and [name]Solomon[/name] I [name]LOVE[/name] - I just don’t like [name]Saul[/name] which I think could be what it gets shortened to once he’s an adult. Same with [name]Micah[/name] which I love ([name]Mike[/name] - can’t stand) [name]Timothy[/name] already is getting “[name]Tim[/name]” which I don’t like nearly as much. Sigh. I suppose nicknames can’t always be avoided when you choose long names for your kids! [name]Phineas[/name] is still a fave that keeps coming back to me… I like the short form too (Phin/[name]Finn[/name])
[name]Ezra[/name] is one that I like a lot but I wonder (since the culture is fairly out of touch with Biblical words/names now) if it might seem feminine to a lot of people ? It also flows nicely with the girls names (which start with vowels) but might make [name]Timothy[/name]'s name seem like the black sheep of the bunch. Thoughts?
Still loving [name]Levi[/name] but it seems like it’s getting so popular. My Dad’s name is [name]Calvin[/name]… I go back and fourth between loving/not feeling this but I do like similar names like [name]Caleb[/name] (though too popular for me), [name]Canaan[/name], [name]Callum[/name] etc
You are getting a lot of great suggestions! I wanted to point out something I noticed but I’m not sure matters to you… Since your other children have 3 or more syllables in their names, a short name like [name]Eli[/name] doesn’t seem to flow as well next to the rest of them. I like a lot of your other choices like [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Solomon[/name], or [name]Phineas[/name]. To me they just seem to match up a little better with your older kids. =]
I agree. We do call [name]Eliana[/name] and Aaralyn by their nicknames a lot - [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Arah[/name], but [name]Timothy[/name]'s name never gets shortened (by us at least!) and I do like the long names! When naming our first daughter [name]Eliana[/name], we would have chosen the name [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] and he would have been called [name]Eli[/name] for short. Now [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Eli[/name] are both quite popular, and perhaps too close to [name]Eliana[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] anyway even if we wanted to use it now.
I like [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name] from your list. I suggest [name]Samson[/name] as it is close to [name]Samuel[/name] but not as popular.
