Years ago, my wife and I decided that we both loved a certain name with substantial family lore on her side: there is a family story that her great-great-grandfather had a prize winning bull named Quinca, and a large poster of a bull with the label “Quinca the Great” hanging in her family home. We thought it would be a fun name for a girl! But now, I’m worried it’s too out-there, and maybe sounds strange (but I love being able to call her Q, and as a veterinarian and family of animal lovers, I do love that origin story also!)
Thoughts? Is it too out there, or is it excellent?!
It sounds too out there to me, maybe because it reminds me of [name_u]Quince[/name_u], which is a fruit. You could use something similar to it like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_f]Quintessa[/name_f]. I personally love the name [name_f]Quintessa[/name_f] and think it would work great as a way to honor Quinca. [name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I just found out that Quinca is the name of a fish and a restaurant.
Eh… I’m going to say its too out there since you’re asking. Though I’m sure a few girls might be happy to be named after their many many greats grandfather’s prize winning bull, I do think it’s better suited to an animal.
My first thought was that it was pronounced KEEN-kuh, which reminded me of “kinks” in like a sexual way. I don’t really like any pronunciation though, even the one you gave, because it sounds really harsh to me. I also agree with @hellobanjo that it’s an interesting family story but I would not want to have been named after a bull, no matter how prize-winning she was. This is a name that will probably spark questions about its origin and I can’t imagine a lot of young girls wanting to tell that story. Sorry.
im not a huge fan… it is a nice story but im not sure i would like being named after a bull, and the name is not an amazing one on its own either- hard to say and confusing to pronounce. if you like it however, use it! you know what name is right for your child.
