Unusual name- Quinca

I could use some help with our dilemma!

Years ago, my wife and I decided that we both loved a certain name with substantial family lore on her side: there is a family story that her great-great-grandfather had a prize winning bull named Quinca, and a large poster of a bull with the label “Quinca the Great” hanging in her family home. We thought it would be a fun name for a girl! But now, I’m worried it’s too out-there, and maybe sounds strange (but I love being able to call her Q, and as a veterinarian and family of animal lovers, I do love that origin story also!)

Thoughts? Is it too out there, or is it excellent?!

I like it! It doesn’t sound too “out there” at all.

I really like it! It’s super unique and I love the story behind the name!

It sounds too out there to me, maybe because it reminds me of [name_u]Quince[/name_u], which is a fruit. You could use something similar to it like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_f]Quintessa[/name_f]. I personally love the name [name_f]Quintessa[/name_f] and think it would work great as a way to honor Quinca. [name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I just found out that Quinca is the name of a fish and a restaurant.

I thought about [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] too… but I honestly love the soft sounds of Quinca more!

Someone told me it sounded like a euphemism for cough your ladybits, which I disagree with but which has stuck with me as an anxiety…

There’s also [name_f]Quinna[/name_f] and [name_f]Quinta[/name_f].

No offense but how is it pronounced? I’m saying [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]-Caw

I’m also wondering that. I say [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]-suh.

kwin-kah (hard C)

Oh okay. It’s interesting.

Quinca is unique and interesting! I like it a lot

Thanks! I think it’d go well with a more classic, simple middle name:

Quinca [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Quinca [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
Quinca [name_u]June[/name_u]

Etc.

Very cute! A bold and friendly choice.

Eh… I’m going to say its too out there since you’re asking. Though I’m sure a few girls might be happy to be named after their many many greats grandfather’s prize winning bull, I do think it’s better suited to an animal.

My first thought was that it was pronounced KEEN-kuh, which reminded me of “kinks” in like a sexual way. I don’t really like any pronunciation though, even the one you gave, because it sounds really harsh to me. I also agree with @hellobanjo that it’s an interesting family story but I would not want to have been named after a bull, no matter how prize-winning she was. This is a name that will probably spark questions about its origin and I can’t imagine a lot of young girls wanting to tell that story. Sorry.

^^ That’s what I was going to say. Sorry.

Not a fan at all, sorry! In a world of Quinns I dont see this being an easy name to carry. Plus as @hellobanjo its likely best suited on an animal.

im not a huge fan… it is a nice story but im not sure i would like being named after a bull, and the name is not an amazing one on its own either- hard to say and confusing to pronounce. if you like it however, use it! you know what name is right for your child.

Hmm… I’ve having mixed thoughts on this one. As a middle, maybe?
