Unusual vs top 100...Gahhhhhhh!!!!!!

So, for the last few weeks I thought I had baby #4 name sorted, she’s due in feb. But the more I say, the more I find it jaded and I’m starting to consider other options again.
Sometimes I think I’m just overthinking the whole thing! Trying to be different, clever, trying to homour family members. Sometimes I want to just call her [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and be done with it!
I actually like popular names a lot, they are popular for a reason. But my first daughter [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is so bothered by the popularity of her name, I steer clear of them. I have given my other kids fairly unusual names and I live in fear that they will climb up the charts. i think there may be something freeing in a fairly common name, in that you already know it’s quite popular and there are gonna be a few around and you don’t feel cheated when someone else uses it or you meet another one.
Some of the popular names I like are [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. I can’t do M, I or T names as I have used those initials already.
My nan (who I have been trying to honour in some way) suggested [name_f]Stella[/name_f] to me when I was pregnant with my second daughter. She had lived next door to a fashionable Italian lady growing up named [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and commented that she wishes she had been called something glamourous herself, like [name_f]Stella[/name_f] or [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]. There are a ton of pets in the extended family named [name_f]Stella[/name_f], I’m not overly concerned about that though. I also kind of like [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] too, but a family friend used it a few years ago for her daughter.
I feel like my head is spinning and I just want something that’s simple and Classic. I’m starting to worry less about popularity, but maybe something in the lower half of the top 100 rather than say [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
First and middle name suggestions needed! Last name [name_u]Raven[/name_u].

Thanks so much!:slight_smile:

After reading your post, my first thought was that I’d go with either another unusual name or something out of the top 100 but still popular.
Have you thought about [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]? I really like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. Firstly, I thought of [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Stella[/name_f], but the S ending and beginning bothered me, so I thought of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] ranked 146 in 2014, popular but not that much compared to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] (plus [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and company).
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is not a name I even considered, because [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] are variations of the same name, much like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sofia[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but not with any of the other names you listed. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], maybe?

Ha-- I have a cat named [name_f]Stella[/name_f] (and a nan named [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]!). [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] sounds pretty bad@ss. I would have thought both [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] were a little close to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] though. Not really though. Are the other kids boys? I’d worry less about matching with boys, but if you have another daughter, I’d love to know the name to try to match with both!

But in the meantime, maybe [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f]… or for less popular names to go with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]… maybe [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]…?

I love [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and I’ve yet to meet someone named that so far in my life. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] may be too popular but I think it’s a great alternative to using [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. You might also want to consider [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Estella[/name_f] either way she could be nicknamed [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

As for [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] I would suggest using [name_f]Laura[/name_f] or changing the spelling to [name_f]Loryn[/name_f].

Some combinations I like:

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Loryn[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] (or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] to avoid using the “I” as the first initial)

Hopefully this helps :slight_smile:

I really liked [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] at the beginning of my pregnancy, but I went off it and I honestly don’t know why! I did think about [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] being essentially the same name as [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], but I think as long as the nicknames were different enough it might be ok (ie. I wouldn’t do [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] lol…but [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] are worlds apart).
I don’t find [name_f]Stella[/name_f] to close to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] personally (I would if she was [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]) and there are 2 siblings (one girl and one boy) in between when listing off names. Strangely I seriously dislike [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and I generally don’t like ‘E’ names (no real reason for this) [name_f]Estella[/name_f] is too frilly and [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] always makes me think of [name_u]Joey[/name_u]'s agent on Friends lol.
Thank you for the suggestions! Ps. I’m not stuck on any of the names I listed and I welcome all suggestions that don’t include them!

[name_u]Raven[/name_u] is such a cool last name!

Right, so:

  • No M, I or T;
  • Simple, classic and preferably not crazy popular;
  • Likes: [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

Maybe [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Katarina[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]?
The first names of which I thought were [name_f]Helena[/name_f] & [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. They are considered classics but aren’t essentially popular.
If you like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] what about [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and have considered [name_f]Greta[/name_f] but find it maybe too harsh. Can’t use [name_f]Olive[/name_f] as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is my brother and I prefer [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] (husband likes it too) but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] probably doesn’t work. All of those are the ‘style’ I’m looking for though!
I can’t do any [name_u]Julie[/name_u] related names as that’s my mums name, my sisters are bethany and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] so those names are out too. My [name_m]SIL[/name_m] is [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (I’ve always liked [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] but they’re out). Cousins are [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f]- they have used [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] for their kids. As you can see, a LOT of the names I would consider are the same or directly related to names that have been used in the family already! I like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] too, which is fine when we’re in the UK, but when in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] it will get completely butchered…also, my husband is worried he’ll forget how to spell it lol. I’m starting to think about [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but my nan had a neighbour she called ‘nosey nora’ and I’m trying to get over the connatation. Another name I love is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] but it was used by a close friend. I know there is a sweet, simple, fresh sounding vintage name that’s perfect out there! Not too worried about popularity…[name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] are beautiful but they feel like I’m still trying too hard of that makes sense? Any more suggestions?

I have a crush on [name_f]Dinah[/name_f] and [name_f]Justine[/name_f] now and one of them may work for you? Classic, but uncommon on the charts.
