Because I get mixed feedback on these names, I’m looking for more reviews! What is your immediate reaction and why? Who do you see with these names? Any pop culture etc. associations?
[name]Byron[/name]: A handsome, underused choice. I think of [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name], obviously a colorful association. I can imagine [name]Byron[/name] as literary and intelligent, rugged and mechanically-minded, or anywhere in between, so it strikes me as a very versatile name.
[name]Lorcan[/name]: I considered this myself at one point, but ultimately let it go because the more I said it out loud the more awkward it started to sound. It’s one of those names that’s cooler in writing than it is out loud.
[name]Clive[/name]: I won’t be able to picture [name]Clive[/name] as anyone other than a suave, middle-aged British man until I physically meet a [name]Clive[/name] who doesn’t match that description.
[name]Soren[/name]: The “sore” part puts me off of it.
I love [name]Clive[/name]! It’s familiar, sounds great, and is visually appealing.
[name]Soren[/name] and [name]Byron[/name] are also alright, but I don’t like [name]Lorcan[/name]. To me, it doesn’t really sound like a name.
[name]Bueller[/name] reminds me of [name]Ferris[/name] [name]Bueller[/name]'s [name]Day[/name] Off. Although I did like that movie, I much prefer it as a surname (or maybe even middle name) as opposed to first name.
I am not a huge fan of the others. With [name]Byron[/name], it just feels sort of hard to say, and almost like a misspelling of [name]Brian[/name]. [name]Lorcan[/name] is not my style, and I think of [name]Clive[/name] Cussler with [name]Clive[/name].
[name]Byron[/name]- I like it, I also go straight to [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name]. It gives off a bit of a literary hipster vibe to me.
[name]Lorcan[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it, I had it on my long list but ultimately crossed it off because although it’s quite popular in [name]Ireland[/name], every non-name-nerd I spoke to who wasn’t Irish thought it sounded like a science fiction villain.
[name]Clive[/name]- I also picture a suave, middle-aged British man, but I think this one could work.
[name]Soren[/name]- nms, I hear it a lot on baby name boards. I think it has the potential to become quite trendy.
Overall I think I like [name]Byron[/name] and [name]Clive[/name] the most.
[name]Byron[/name]: I think I’m with southern.maple on [name]Byron[/name]. I, too, think of [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name], which isn’t an association I’d want to give my son, but I think a [name]Byron[/name] would easily make the name his own. It’s strong and familiar while not overused.
[name]Lorcan[/name]: I had no immediate associations when I saw the name [name]Lorcan[/name], but I quickly fixed that when I checked it on Nameberry’s database! Lots of Lorcans on there. I like Irish names and I think this one would work here. He fits into the 2-syllable, ends-with-N trend while standing out from the crowd.
[name]Clive[/name]: For me, [name]Clive[/name] is [name]Clive[/name] Staples (C.S.) [name]Lewis[/name], and for that reason I like it. He was never called [name]Clive[/name], so it could be a fairly subtle tribute. It’s underused here, which is a plus to me.
[name]Soren[/name]: [name]Soren[/name] Kierkegaard. I like the name but don’t love it; the association with the philosopher and the soft sounds in this name combine to make it feel rather weak to me.
These names are all just off my radar, in the “like but not love” category. I did have [name]Clive[/name] in my Top Ten for a while, because of C.S. [name]Lewis[/name], but I just don’t love it quite that much. But that’s my own personal taste. I think each of these names would make a handsome and very wearable choice. Best wishes!
[name]Byron[/name] - [name]George[/name] [name]Gordon[/name], [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name]. [name]Love[/name] this one, it’s a strong and rugged choice, but gentlemanly and literary as well.
[name]Lorcan[/name] - edgy and fierce, makes me think of [name]Lucian[/name] the Lycan
[name]Clive[/name] - This one is my least favorite, although I’m not sure how to articulate why…it feels somewhat oily to me, and untrustworthy. Someone like [name]Clayton[/name] from the animated [name]Tarzan[/name] movie comes to mind.
[name]Soren[/name] - Another favorite, dreamy and brave. Reminds me of [name]Sora[/name], the hero and main character of the Kingdom Hearts games.
[name]Byron[/name] I’ve always liked because of [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name]'s romantic allure, but then it always feels a little nerdy to me when I think about actually using it.
[name]Lorcan[/name] is really chewy. It takes a lot of effort to say. I think I like it better on paper (for a character).
[name]Soren[/name]–my own geekiness steps in here and I see [name]Soren[/name], but I think Sauron–the really horrible bad guy from [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings. Incidentally in this same thinking, although CS [name]Lewis[/name] was named [name]Clive[/name], he decided as a child that he didn’t like the monniker and went by [name]Jack[/name].
Oh ick, I think comparing [name]Byron[/name] to [name]Brian[/name] just killed that for me. I had a very not nice ex named [name]Brian[/name]. I really liked it too - I thought it was strong yet romantic and underused. Anyone have suggestions for names with same qualities but not the same sounds?
Strawberrytree - For [name]Soren[/name], you say you see it a lot on boards - have you seen it used by anyone? [name]Just[/name] curious. I have a lot of names that suddenly become much more popular.
So interesting to see the vast array of reactions to [name]Lorcan[/name].
I haven’t met any Sorens [name]IRL[/name], but I ‘Internet-know of’ two Sorens. [name]One[/name] is about 2 and the other was just born. They were children of name nerds though, so it might be one of those names that is becoming better known, but not widely used.
I like all of them but [name]Clive[/name]. i hate [name]Clive[/name]. it just seems so smarmy to me. i’d be most likely to use [name]Soren[/name] or [name]Byron[/name] myself.
