I couldn’t edit the title of my last post for some reason so made a new one. Are you all sick of me yet?! [name_u]Day[/name_u] # 5 and baby STILL has no name. We have been conflicted because we were dead set on using the name lucca vienne for our little girl but I got
Cold feet as my due date approached. With all the mixed feedback we have gotten I just don’t think I can give my beautiful baby a name some people see as so masculine. So lucca is sadly out. We had also considered mattea (dh vetoed sadly so as much as I love it it’s out) and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (we told some people we had decided this was her name but she’s not a [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] to me after all…I felt unsettled every time we referred to her by [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]). [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is also out to me.
So back to square one-ish. We are basically down to [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] which I think is beautiful and is growing on me. I worry [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is becoming too popular though. Other option is to use vienne (vivienne is not an option) as her first name. I love this name but need middle name ideas. I love [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]/te but we have a nephew named [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and his parents have expressed that they would be unhappy if we used [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] grrrr.
So [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] (4 syllable Italian last name starting with S ending in phonetic [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-née sound)
OR
[name_f]Vienne[/name_f] --insert mn–
I feel like we are finally getting somewhere but need to seal the deal.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] S-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nee surname
or [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Layla[/name_f] S-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nee surname
or [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Mila[/name_f] S-lee-nee
Would they be upset about you using [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] just as a middle name? (If so, that’s a little ridiculous. 1. It’s not even the same name, and 2. Most people don’t use their middle name very often.) [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is beautiful!
ETA: if you haven’t decided, I prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. Unless you have [name_m]French[/name_m] heritage, the double [name_m]French[/name_m] endings for first and middle might be a bit much.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] is beautiful. I think it is more on the popular side, but definitely still useable! There are so many forms of [name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f]/[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]/[name_f]Lyla[/name_f]/[name_f]Lila[/name_f]/etc that [name_f]Layla[/name_f] itself still has the opportunity to be unique.
[name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] sounds very nice to me.
I like [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f], even if [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is a bit popular. The name flows well, and I prefer [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] in the middle spot to its being a first name.
You say that she doesn’t feel a lucia to you, but what does she feel like? Does she feel like any of the names you have suggested?
Personally, I love [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and it’s a shame that [name_m]Julian[/name_m]'s parents aren’t so hot on you using it, though have you thought of using the nn ‘[name_f]Ettie[/name_f]’? Or [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]? Very sweet, I recently met a little [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] and she was gorgeous!
Also a shame about [name_f]Mattea[/name_f], it’s very sweet and very uncommon, it would be refreshing to meet a little [name_f]Mattea[/name_f]!
If none of these names are lighting up your workd, my suggestion to you is Piata nn [name_f]Pia[/name_f]. It’s short, it’s sweet, feminine, it sounds Italian (although it isn’t, but its meaning in Maori is to twinkle, which is lovely!) and is different while not outlandishly so.
Piata [name_f]Vienne[/name_f]. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and Piata. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and [name_f]Pia[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] is adorable. I wouldn’t be too concerned about other parent’s opinions. [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is not the same name as [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. Now if you named her [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Julienne[/name_f] they would have the “right” to be unhappy (even though it would still be ridiculous). If you love the name then go for it, like other people suggested you could always call her [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] / [name_f]Etta[/name_f] / [name_f]Jette[/name_f] / etc.
I love [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f], it’s gorgeous.
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]
For me, [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] would flow better. You could do [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] also. I think that you should use [name_f]Julia[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] regardless of what other people say. After-all, it is your baby and they can’t control your choices. [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is number 31 on the US charts and 29 on the UK charts. You could use [name_f]Lila[/name_f] which is like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] with a hint of [name_f]Layla[/name_f].
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f], and at this point no name is really too popular. If it is a sticking point, [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] would be a wonderful name. [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Alisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] came to mind first. [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]? [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Liana[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Layla[/name_f], but strongly dislike that spelling. [name_f]Leila[/name_f] and [name_f]Laila[/name_f] look much more natural to me. [name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Laila[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] is lovely.
I like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]/te better than both [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Layla[/name_f], as of by the way, and think you shouldn’t let your folks determine your name. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] is gorgeous.
Can I just say, [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous and I think it’s really unreasonable for [name_m]Julian[/name_m]'s parents to not allow you to use a different name in the middle name spot. [name_m]How[/name_m] ridiculous.
I like [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f]. If you’re concerned about the popularity of [name_f]Layla[/name_f], what about [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]? I also think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would work beautifully!
Some other L suggestions:
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Luisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Lainey[/name_f]
[name_u]Lane[/name_u]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (a personal favourite)
[name_f]Non[/name_f]-L Suggestions:
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] (if [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is out)
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]/[name_f]Camille[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]
[name_f]Jana[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonia[/name_f]
Thanks for your feedback everyone! I guess I’m just looking for a feminine beautiful name. I’m not really in to super Italian names. I so wish my husband would come around to mattea or we could use [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] as a first name. I’d seal the deal today if that were the case.
I worry that [name_f]Layla[/name_f] won’t be taken seriously as an adult. [name_f]Do[/name_f] people prefer the [name_f]Leila[/name_f] spelling?
Fwiw our son is [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and if we had another boy we would have named him [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]. I’ve suggested [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn mila to dh but he has said no to them all. Although admittedly i would ideally like something “prettier”. [name_f]Layla[/name_f]/leila would fit this girl as she is my little “dark haired beauty” but I have my concerns since she will someday be a woman looking for a job!
I think [name_f]Layla[/name_f]/[name_f]Leila[/name_f] is a perfectly grown-up name! I don’t really see anything childish about it. I prefer the spelling [name_f]Leila[/name_f]. [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is a gorgeous name, when I was in fifth grade there was a girl named [name_f]Leila[/name_f] and we all wanted her name. [name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] has a nice flow to it.
Have you considered [name_f]Vianne[/name_f]? That’s the name of the main character in the 2000 film Chocolat, played by - ironically, considering you also like the name! - [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] Binoche. It sounded wonderful in the movie. If you decide not to go with [name_f]Vienne[/name_f]/[name_f]Vianne[/name_f], I think [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] would be a better choice than [name_f]Layla[/name_f]. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] just has more presence than [name_f]Layla[/name_f] and is, I think, a smidge more distinctive. (And less popular than the the [name_f]Layla[/name_f]/[name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Kayla[/name_f] brigade.) It’s lovely that you’re being so considerate of [name_m]Julian[/name_m]‘s parents feelings, but they’re not being very considerate of YOUR feelings. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] are different enough not to be confusing, and frankly I think it’s sweet that the cousins’ names would be linked. It would be a nice connection.
I feel like most people would think [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is pronounced like Lie-la because they wouldn’t look closely enough to see “Lei” rather than “Lie” if that makes sense. Although, if you’re concerned about a more “grown up” name rather than just [name_f]Layla[/name_f] and would consider [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], you could always use [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] with the nn [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]. [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] would be absolutely gorgeous.
Oooh, I don’t think you should worry. My cousin had a son in [name_f]April[/name_f]. They didn’t reveal the name until [name_f]July[/name_f]… and baby wasn’t even getting baptized, so I wonder if they just had a looong dilemma about what to name the little guy. Well they named him after my cousin’s FIL. And I know people who haven’t revealed the name until the baby got baptized or something.
My best friend and her hubby were set on naming their son after his FIL - but the husband’s mother and grandmother were fiercely against. Nasty divorce or something like that. Well, she ended naming him another name, [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
Well, I guess I’m just saying/writing it, to tell you that there’s people who don’t name the kids straight away. I love [name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] or [name_f]Leila[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]. [name_f]Layla[/name_f] is super cute too, but [name_f]Leila[/name_f] is my preference. Well, I think it’s stupid that [name_m]Julian[/name_m]'s parents won’t allow for [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], but meh
