Updated List for Baby Girl!

Thanks to all your wonderful opinions, advice and suggestions, we’ve been able to make a top 19. Not what we were aiming for, but we each have our favourites, and with both of us being rather stubborn, that’s that! Now we are asking you to help us narrow this too long list down to a final top 5, we just can’t do it on our own… too indecisive! So, whichever way you choose to do it, we’ll be very thankful.

Also, not to be mean, rude, ungrateful or anything, please don’t suggest any new names unless you think it is THE name for us and you’ve read the previous threads so you know what we’ve already eliminated, it’s just going to mess with my pregnant brain. You’ve all had amazing suggestions, and I’m so thankful, I just don’t know if I can do all that over again…

Most of your names are multiple syllables so I would go with one middle name.

1 Belphoebe Tempest
2 [name]Genoveva[/name] Windemere
3 Ceridwen Fairlight
4 Everild Moonbeam
5 Finvola [name]Shalott[/name]

Hespera is standing out for me. Gorgeous.
Also really love Finvola, Nienna & Winterose (one R)

And yeah, still pushing for you to use Villanelle in there.

Hespera [name]Tempest[/name] Villanelle
Hespera Windemere Shalott
Finvola Villanelle [name]Ren[/name]
Finvola [name]Tempest[/name] [name]Clio[/name]
Winterose [name]Thalia[/name] [name]Ren[/name]
Winterose [name]Alcyone[/name] [name]Pelagia[/name]
Nienna Moonbeam Chione
Nienna [name]Arcadia[/name] Belisande
Nienna Villanelle Shalott

Being from the states, I will put my favorites that I would be comfortable with (in no order):

Belphoebe- I am so glad this is on someone’s list. I like this name a lot, but people just recommend [name]Phoebe[/name] instead.
[name]Ceridwen[/name]- Very pretty.
[name]Genoveva[/name]- Pretty and interesting.
[name]Rhiannon[/name]- I knew one girl in High school with this name.
Eilonwy- It sounds so lovely. I would consider using it myself, but I don’t want two E names and American’s would probably butcher it.

[name]Favorite[/name] middles: Endellion, [name]Thalia[/name], [name]Elaine[/name], [name]Tempest[/name], [name]Ludmila[/name]

Does Tinuviel have a lot of history? I know it was used in [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings. I think it is a lovely name and I know he based a lot of his names on real languages.

My top four from your list, in this order, are: Illyria, [name]Ceridwen[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name] and Winterose (one R).

My favourite combos:

Illyria [name]Tempest[/name]
Illyria Moonbeam
Illyria Windemere
[name]Ceridwen[/name] [name]Arcadia[/name]
[name]Ceridwen[/name] Evenstar
[name]Ceridwen[/name] Windemere

  1. [name]Altalune[/name] Windemere [name]Snow[/name]
  2. Belphoebe Endellion Bloom
  3. Evelake Endellion Bloom
  4. Winterose [name]Clio[/name] [name]Alcyone[/name]
  5. [name]Genoveva[/name] [name]Luna[/name] Eirawen

[name]Orion[/name] & [name]Altalune[/name] make my favorite BG combo!

Of the ones listed my favorites are:

[name]Altalune[/name]
Eilonwy
Illyria

Middle names:
Eirawen
Stellaluna
[name]Tempest[/name]
[name]Ren[/name]

My favorites, pretty much in order (this keeps changing), are:

[name]Ceridwen[/name] [name]Mimosa[/name] or [name]Ceridwen[/name] Sylphide
Hespera Windermere or Hespera Shalott
Myristica [name]Tempest[/name] or Myristica Chione
Elbereth [name]Ren[/name] or Elbereth [name]Clio[/name]
Tinuviel Cyrene or Tinuviel [name]Elaine[/name]

Admittedly idiosyncratic reasoning: Whenever possible, I tried to pair complexity with comparative accessibility, if not in meaning, then by sound. Along the way, I came to understand that even though there are some “word” names I like, it seems I prefer the relative “veiling” of names whose meanings are shrouded in allusion, history, other language bases, or literature. Thus I eliminated Seawillow and Winterose; I eliminated Lorien because it sounds/reads male to me. Niniane I eliminated because too much of a tongue twister, even on this list. Nienna reminds me of [name]Sienna[/name], Evelake could become [name]Evie[/name] and we’re swamped with Evies. Everild? Somehow, mixed with [name]Emerald[/name] in my mind, cannot make up my mind about the “ild” ending, but this one very nearly made the top five.

Elbereth
[name]Ceridwen[/name]
Nienna
Lorien
Belphoebe

Winterose, [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Genoveva[/name], Evelake, Hespera, [name]Ceridwen[/name], Belphoebe and [name]Altalune[/name] are my favourites and the most usable.

I don’t mean this to sound but I did have a little giggle at Seawillow, it just doesn’t look like a name and makes me think of sea lions. I couldn’t ever imagine having a child in one of my classes named Seawillow, sorry.

Eilonwy looks like a jumble of letters rather than a name, and pronunciation will be an issue.

Lorien looks masculine to me, while Myristica seems a little like you’ve tried to go for the work Mystic/[name]Mystery[/name] and it seems a little cheap and I don’t say this to offend just the impression I’d get if I saw it on a class list.

Nienna isn’t too bad, and neither is Finvola, Illyria (if I’m saying it right) and Niniane.

Combo ideas…

[name]Altalune[/name] [name]Pelagia[/name] [name]Ren[/name]
[name]Altalune[/name] [name]Mimosa[/name] [name]Clio[/name]

[name]Genoveva[/name] [name]Pelagia[/name] [name]Tempest[/name]
[name]Genoveva[/name] Endellion Fairlight

Hespera Meadowsweet Chione
Hespera [name]Clio[/name] Sylphide

Hespera Villanelle Evenstar

[name]Rhiannon[/name] [name]Mimosa[/name] Belisande
[name]Rhiannon[/name] Tinkersnow Fairlight
[name]Rhiannon[/name] Windemere Cyrene
[name]Rhiannon[/name] Illyra Moonbeam

These are my favorites, in no particular order…

[name]Ceridwen[/name]
Illyria
[name]Genoveva[/name]
Belphoebe
Niniane

I can’t get over Winterose. I think it’s very pretty! I’ve always had a soft spot for Eilonwy, Everlid, and Illyria. These are my top 5 of the list you posted with middles:

Eilonwy [name]Arcadia[/name]
Everild Windemere
Illyria [name]Clio[/name]
Nienna Belisande
Winterose [name]Elaine[/name]

I think my favorite of all of them is Eilonwy [name]Arcadia[/name] or Winterose [name]Elaine[/name].

[name]How[/name] is Eilonwy pronounced?

[name]Altalune[/name] nn [name]Luna[/name].

Thank you all so much!

lineska: We’re going to try and get Villanelle in there, I love the Hespera [name]Tempest[/name] Villanelle combo!

mara_lyn86: I don’t know if Tinuviel had any other roots, I do love Tolkien though, so no problem for me if it hasn’t…

asophie1: I love [name]Altalune[/name] Windemere [name]Snow[/name]! So beautiful!

sheflieswithherownwings: Great to get input from a teacher. Seawillow is an actual name, I think it’s adorable! i had to get used to saying it first though. I love so many of the combos you suggested, Belphoebe Tinkersnow [name]Ren[/name] and [name]Ceridwen[/name] Finvola Meadowsweet are fantastic.

klcalder2: I love Winterose too, it’s stunning. I find myself writing it on notepads…

flick: Eilonwy is pronounced aï:-lonwi (first i long, second short).

Thanks again!

My top 5 would be:

  1. Winterose Cyrene
  2. Illyria Fairlight
  3. Evelake [name]Mimosa[/name]
  4. [name]Genoveva[/name] [name]Ren[/name]
  5. [name]Rhiannon[/name] [name]Pelagia[/name]

Belphobe Meadowsweet (love Meadowsweet)
[name]Ceridwen[/name] Fairlight
[name]Ceridwen[/name] Meadowsweet
Winterose Endellion
Everild Seawillow (I hope its ok that I stole it from your firsts list)
Hespera Shalott
Hespera [name]Elaine[/name]

I’m crossing my fingers that some of your first name picks may also get used as middles. You have so many beauties, one can only hope you’ll have an enormous family!

Favorites:
Hespera [name]LOVE[/name]
Belphoebe [name]LOVE[/name]
Illyria [name]LOVE[/name]
Everild [name]LOVE[/name]
Niniane “Nih-nee-ah-nee” (This one’s grown on me. The more I say it to myself the more I enjoy those repeated sounds, the bounciness of it)

Others:
[name]Altalune[/name]- YES
[name]Ceridwen[/name]- I don’t like the emphasis on “rid”
Eilonwy- Beautiful, though it does contain the word “ennui”
Elbereth- sounds lispy to me
Evelake- YES
Finvola- can’t get past the “vola.” I think of voles, or some kind of Finnish olive-oil substitute.
[name]Genoveva[/name]- Much prefer [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Guinevere[/name] or [name]Ginevra[/name], but these are probably too mainstream for you.
Lorien- YES
Myristica- Makes me want to slit my wristicas. Sorry! I mean it’s better than Nutmeg.
Nienna- Niniane is better imo
[name]Rhiannon[/name]- Strong. I have a bad association with [name]Rhiannon[/name], so I can’t be sure.
Seawillow- I really like it in theory, but part of me keeps hearing “Seabiscuit.”
Tinuviel- YES
Winterose (one or two r’s?)- Maybe Winterrose? Maybe one of the nameberry linguists will know. [name]Lovely[/name], but I like it as a middle name.

Middles I favor:
Endellion, Meadowsweet, Villanelle, [name]Ren[/name], Eirawen, Belisande, [name]Clio[/name], [name]Thalia[/name], Cyrene, [name]Alcyone[/name], [name]Elaine[/name], [name]Mimosa[/name], Windemere, [name]Arcadia[/name], Chione, Fiametta, Sylphide, Stellaluna ALSO, SORRY, BUT [name]DO[/name] YOU LIKE GLESNI? It’s Welsh, means “blueness, freshness” shares a root with “glass”

Not wild about:
Moonbeam (too much of a straightforward hippy name imo)
Evenstar: Prefer Everild, Evelake
Fairlight: Prefer Fairly, or [name]Fflur[/name] (“fleer”)
Tinkersnow: What is Tinkersnow? When it snows pots and teakettles? I think this name is adorable but also plum crazy!)
[name]Pelagia[/name]: I hope this one’s after the jellyfish or the moth, because the saints met terrible ends. Somehow I hear “Bellagio,” as in the tacky hotel in [name]Vegas[/name]… Dunno, just nms.
[name]Tempest[/name]: [name]Love[/name] the play, and the idea of this name; just not sure about the “pest” part
[name]Ludmila[/name]: This one falls into the [name]Brunhilde[/name] category for me- suggests a buxom, braided soprano.
Shalott: While I love the tale, I think “Shalott” itself sounds a lot like shallot, or slot, or schlep, shlump, shlemiel…

Oh, I really like Eilonwy, then! Very pretty! I also really enjoy Niniane, too!

My favorites:

Atalune - Gorgeous!
Belphoebe - I just love this one.
Everild
Illyria
[name]Rhiannon[/name]
Winterose - I’m thinking that I like it with one r.
