My husband is picking our boy name and this is one that he suggested.
The jury is still out on whether I like it or not. I’ve always liked [name]Uriah[/name] in the abstract but I never really considered actually using it. I think [name]Wolfgang[/name] is a little much with [name]Uriah[/name].
Is it a usable name?
Does it work with [name]Wolfgang[/name]?
Would it be better with [name]William[/name] instead of [name]Wolfgang[/name]?
I know we have plenty of time but we take a long time to settle on a name so the sooner we pick them out the better.
Yeah, I’d say it’s a bit much. [name]Both[/name] names are just so unusual and out there that put together, the combo is too over the top. Using one or the other and pairing it with a more traditional name (ie, [name]Uriah[/name] [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Charles[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]) would be a lot more balanced.
Loving [name]Wolfgang[/name]! [name]Uriah[/name], not so much. It does remind of of urea, which I don’t want to be reminded of. What about [name]Isaiah[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name]?
Even though Uriah has a lovely meaning, I think it is a terrible sounding name. The combination of Uriah Wolfgang is even more terrible sounding. Wolfgang is an okay for a middle name. I’d prefer just plain Wolf over Wolfgang though.
If it’s Biblical names you are looking for how about Azariah. It also has a lovely meaning and the same -riah sound at the end.
I think Azariah William would be a good choice.
Sorry, I confess [name]Uriah[/name] also puts me in mind of urine and urea. I think that it bears heavy teasing potential, and that (based on everyone else’s comments) it isn’t the kind of association that kids will mature out of… Plus [name]Uriah[/name] Heep of Dickens’ fame was a creepy, sad guy. And really, [name]Bathsheba[/name]'s [name]Uriah[/name] was maybe a nice guy, but he was kind of a cuckold and also met a sad end. So.
[name]Jedediah[/name], [name]Zachariah[/name], [name]Abiah[/name], [name]Josiah[/name], [name]Jeremiah[/name], [name]Tobiah[/name], the pp’s suggestion of [name]Azariah[/name], or even the really similar [name]Uziah[/name] would improve it [name]IMO[/name]. I don’t mind [name]Wolfgang[/name]; [name]Wolfgang[/name] [name]Uriah[/name] might be a mild improvement, but I think that the combination in any order is dangerous.
I like both names myself–[name]Uriah[/name] as a first or middle, [name]Wolfgang[/name] as a middle–though perhaps more in the abstract than in reality. But it does seem that [name]Uriah[/name] has a lot of teasing potential, and I agree that the combination is too much.
I like [name]Uri[/name], too, probably more than [name]Uriah[/name]. Would [name]Uri[/name] be a better choice? [name]Adonijah[/name]? [name]Tobias[/name]? (I think [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] is awesome!)
Best wishes!
I don’t mind [name]Uriah[/name]. It reminds me of [name]Urijah[/name] [name]Faber[/name], the mixed martial arts fighter. So that’s a good association. I also like [name]Wolfgang[/name]. But together… it’s a little much. I would suggest using one of the names with a more traditional name to anchor it.
I like [name]Uriel[/name] and [name]Uziel[/name] more than [name]Uriah[/name]. I’ve known a number of guys named [name]Uri[/name]/[name]Yuri[/name] and most were pretty cool.
I don’t like [name]Wolfgang[/name] as much as I like just [name]Wolf[/name].
frustratedauthor - [name]Urijah[/name] [name]Faber[/name] is exactly where he got it from. LOL
I agree it makes me think of Urine. I like it a little better with [name]William[/name]. [name]Uriah[/name] [name]William[/name] seems a little better.
I can’t use [name]Isaiah[/name] because that’s my oldest son’s name and I can’t use [name]Zachariah[/name] because that’s my youngest’s name.
Also [name]Uriah[/name] and zach[name]ARIAH[/name] are very close.
I know I’m in the minority opinion here, but I actually like [name]Uriah[/name]. (He is the noble soldier [name]King[/name] [name]David[/name] had killed so he could steal his wife, right?)
However, I wouldn’t name my son that if I already had boys named [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Zachariah[/name].
Here’s some biblical suggestions for you:
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Judah[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name] - ([name]Zeke[/name] is a cool nickname)
[name]Barnabus[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name] ([name]Sol[/name] is a cool nickname)
[name]Moses[/name] ([name]Mo[/name])
[name]Abram[/name] ([name]Bram[/name])
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Nehemiah[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Tobiah[/name]
[name]Uriah[/name]'s okay. I still like [name]Uriel[/name], which is an angel name, much less used than [name]Gabriel[/name]/[name]Raphael[/name]/[name]Michael[/name]. And it’s further from the sound of [name]Zachariah[/name].
I’m with previous posters in that [name]Uriah[/name] makes me think of urine, but I do love [name]Wolfgang[/name]. Although if your other two boys are [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Zachariah[/name], I would avoid using any name that ends in the -IAH sound. It’s just too much.
I like the suggestions of [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] and [name]Solomon[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name].
Aside from the fact that I don’t care for [name]Uriah[/name], I think it would be too much to go with your other kids’ names. They sound too similar. [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] is pretty awesome.
I wouldn’t use [name]Uriah[/name] for reasons already stated. [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] or [name]Isaiah[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] would be much more wearable.
ETA: Didn’t see that you already have an [name]Isaiah[/name] and a [name]Zachariah[/name]. [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] would be pretty awesome. [name]Solomon[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Nehemiah[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Emmanuel[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name], or [name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name] could work too.
those two names together are way over the top - like you’re trying way to hard to be different and cool. [name]William[/name] in the middle or something else in the beginning would be less overwhelming.
[name]Uriah[/name] sounds a lot like urine, and my sister says it sounds like a urinary infection. I think it’s too much with [name]Wolfgang[/name] (plus, with your other kids names it sounds too much iah sounds.) Someone said [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Wolfgang[/name], and that sounds like a nice compramise. I also think that Solomen [name]William[/name] would be nice too. [name]Uriah[/name] and [name]Wolfgang[/name] however, aren’t ment to be together. Sorry!
