I have always liked the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f] but would [name_f]Velvet[/name_f] be usable? Obviously as sisters it would be a little much but maybe an alternative?
If you are brave enough and is the name you love, go for it. But, it will probably be a guilty pleasure for me.
I feel like I have more guilty pleasures names than ones I like that I would actually use lol
I agree with @alicemarie1 — you gotta be brave to use [name_f]Velvet[/name_f]. It’s got too many weird, sensual and comical associations in my view. But it sounds nice…
Other [name_f]Violet[/name_f] alternatives could be [name_f]Viola[/name_f] (another flower, and a Shakespearian name), [name_f]Violette[/name_f], [name_f]Violaine[/name_f], [name_f]Villette[/name_f], [name_f]Ivette[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivet[/name_f].
(And yes, I’ve also got tons of guilty pleasure names, but no guts to go with!)
[name_f]Velvet[/name_f] feels uncomfortably sexual as a name, so I wouldn’t use it.
[name_f]Velma[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Velvet[/name_f], but without the sexy connotations.
I think [name_f]Velvet[/name_f] would be stunning if you could pull it off It doesn’t carry any connotations for me - I just think of a beautifully soft piece of golden-brown velvet.
I think velvet is either a name that one can pull off, or not. I apologize for this, but it has an inescapable sexual connotation to it.
[name_f]Velvet[/name_f] sounds pretty to me…
I agree that there’s something uncomfortably erotic about it… I’d avoid, to be perfectly honest.
[name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivet[/name_f] are great alternatives to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Or maybe [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Viveka[/name_f], [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f], [name_f]Amoret[/name_f], [name_f]Linnet[/name_f]?
Agree with all of the other posters. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] has a sweet and classic feel, while [name_f]Velvet[/name_f] seems…sensual and classless. Up to you, of course. I love the name [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] as another choice.
I never thought of velvet as sexual. I also thought that the movie national velvet classed it up a bit, guess not.
Uh…no, definitely not useable.
Same! I actually really like [name_f]Velvet[/name_f] too. Although I do think it’s a bit much for a first name, I could totally see it working as a middle.
This reminds me of a forum I came across once about whether or not the name [name_f]Honey[/name_f] was usable. Most everyone was saying no, until someone suggested the combo [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f]. Even some of the people who’d originally said no had to admit [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] was a cute combo. I think [name_f]Velvet[/name_f] could be like that – if you found the right first name to pair it with, you could end up with a stellar combination.
I could also see [name_f]Velvet[/name_f] being a pet name, kind of along the same lines as “sweetie” or “honey.” I suppose you could use it as a nickname for [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
