Using a surname as a first name

What do you think of using a surname as a first name that isnt normally used. So not like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] or [name_m]Smith[/name_m] or anything.

Think like the name [name_m]Beauregard[/name_m] or Beaumont or Beaudoin. And using the nickname [name_u]Beau[/name_u].

[name_u]Beau[/name_u] is not my personal taste, but I think Beaumont makes for quite a fun, handsome choice.

Beaumont nn [name_u]Beau[/name_u] would be cute.

I love surnames as first names, especially when they’re a bit “out there” (in a good way). I personally think [name_m]Beauregard[/name_m] is a bit much, maybe as a middle name. But Beaumont or Beaudoin nn [name_u]Beau[/name_u] would be gorgeous.

I think it’s completely fine. I’m considering using my maiden name as a name for a son. It’s not commonly used as a first name either.

I think Beaumont is fine. [name_m]Beauregard[/name_m] seems a bit over the top to me, unless it’s an honour name. I prefer Beauden to Beaudoin, which I’m not sure how to pronounce.

I know a little boy named Bourdain, [name_u]Bo[/name_u]/[name_u]Beau[/name_u] for short. He’s named for [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] Bourdain.

I think it’s very doable. Isn’t this family-surname-for-first-name thing quite popular in the US?

It really depends. Beaumont sounds more like a name since it reminds me of [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]/[name_m]Edmond[/name_m] etc. I think someone with Beaudoin as a first name could get laughed at.

It is. You would just never see someone with this as a first name. I feel like its a little bit odd as a first name but maybe having [name_u]Beau[/name_u] as a nn could save it.

I really like Beaumont!
I dont think it’s strange loads of names (particularly boy names) were originally surnames

([name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_u]Murphy[/name_u],…)

[name_f]My[/name_f] son’s middle name is [name_u]Miles[/name_u]. It was my grandmother’s maiden name. So…[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_u]Miles[/name_u]
