Using multiple nature/word names?

I know some nameberries dislike using more than one nature/word names, but I like the meaning and imagery behind these names. What are your opinions on this nature names? Also do you prefer this combos as separate first/middles or as double-barreled first names? Thanks!

First and middle name combos:
[name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f] [name_f]Neige[/name_f] (means [name_f]Snow[/name_f] White)
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]

Double barreled first names:
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]

I think the most important is what you think of the names. I am a sucker for whimsical, long and slightly over the top nature names. My children’s middle names are Nightingale, Mayflower and Wildrose to boot.

I feel like the only name from your list I would cross off is [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] Niege, because if your hypothetical daughter even steps foot into a [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking place or is around a [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking person the name would sound utterly ridiculous. I guess you can say it’s a one-character/person appellation.

Hyphenated names… I think the best answer is depends. I wouldn’t hyphenate all those names because some simply sound very natural and normal together, like [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Others are short with a very common middle name which is [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and I do know for a fact people who get called by their first and middle in a normal basis. When it flows well of the tongue and isn’t too much of a mouthful, I think they can do without the hyphen. The only ones I would hyphenate are [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and maybe [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is better spelled [name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f] for me.

These are all beautiful names. I like them as separate first and middles. Like [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] said, [name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f] works too.

  • I don’t like all the names in a combo being word names usually. But if you absolutely love the combo, I stand by the “if you love it, use it.” If I found a combo I loved enough to overlook that rule for me, I’d break it. Such as with the names [name_u]Reed[/name_u] and [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] on my signature. I love them enough in their combos that it’s breaking my “no family names” rule. (Plus, I’m not close to my family member named [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is to honour [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m], if anyone)

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are both pretty. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] makes me think of Sleeping Beauty but I don’t consider that a bad thing. [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] Niege I don’t like at all, but that’s because I prefer [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Naia[/name_f] to Niege and [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] and [name_f]Blanka[/name_f] to [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]. I don’t like [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (Not sure if its because I don’t like [name_f]Calla[/name_f] or because it’s too many L’s)

For the hyphened names, I personally only think names should be hyphened if it’s a surname or if it’s like [name_u]Billy[/name_u]-[name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] or a variation of the parents names such as [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]'s name. [name_f]Briar[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lilly[/name_f] fits this rule to me because it’s a full name to me. [name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f] was also an awesome name to me as a kid. [name_u]Winter[/name_u]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] looks surprisingly nice to me. I don’t like the other two hyphenated names.

I think the double word names are fun and can be very beautiful. I love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] (and other combos) to name a few. But for me, [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_m]Tiger[/name_m] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] just go too far.

I like nature and word names a lot! From your first list, I like [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I’m iffy on [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] due to the Sleeping Beauty connection. From your second list, I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I think the others are better off not being hyphenated.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - this is Disney’s Sleeping Beauty’s name. So, no, definitely not.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - it’s a little bit common sounding.
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f] [name_f]Neige[/name_f] - I’m [name_m]French[/name_m] with ties to both [name_f]France[/name_f] and [name_m]Quebec[/name_m]. I don’t recommend this.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - it’s too literal and straightforward - lacks romance, adventure or whimsy.

[name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a cool name.

In the new baby announcements there are some good ones for inspo - [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Jade[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].

My favourite is [name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f] (although I definitely prefer [name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f]!)

I love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]…very pretty!!

I like word/nature names but wouldn’t double up on them. However they can be hard to pair with “name names”.
I like [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] but I find it too much with [name_f]Neige[/name_f] as a middle name.
I like [name_f]Calla[/name_f] but [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is too many “l” sounds for me.
I don’t like the idea of a girl being known as [name_m]Tiger[/name_m].
I am generally not into double barreled names.

I love double word names. I always fall for names that evoke beautiful imagery and these always do without fail.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Briar[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - too Disney
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - love this, I am not a huge fan of [name_u]Winter[/name_u] though but it’s a beautiful name. [name_u]Winter[/name_u]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is alright but I prefer them as separate names.
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f] [name_f]Neige[/name_f] - don’t like either
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - love this, very sweet. I prefer double word names as separate names, though, so I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Calla[/name_f]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f].

I don’t like [name_m]Tiger[/name_m]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f], unfortunately. I don’t see the appeal in a kid being called [name_m]Tiger[/name_m]. And [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is cute.

I love using multiple nature/word names too!

I prefer [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first and middle name combo. [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is so beautiful and magical on its own! Doesn’t need anything else.

I prefer these as double first names:

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (love!)
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_m]Tiger[/name_m] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

In my opinion they don’t necessarily need the hyphen but I’d like them either way.

I like [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] [name_f]Neige[/name_f] as both a first/middle combo and a double first name.
