Im having baby #4!
I have two girls and a boy, [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
Im looking for usable vintage names that would work with my current names.
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] and [name_m]Walter[/name_m] are our current front runners, I also really like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_m]Austin[/name_m], [name_m]Angus[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u].
We are Australian so we dont have the presidential associations with franklin and i think its my favourite but I hate [name_m]Frank[/name_m].
[name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are all classics. [name_m]Walter[/name_m] fits seamlessly with these names, and I think that’d be your best bet. Those names sound like they belong together.
I really like [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. I think either would go well with your other kids.
As for [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], you could use [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] as an occasional nickname. My grandfather’s brother goes by that.
Other nn for [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], maybe [name_f]Lin[/name_f]/[name_f]Linny[/name_f]?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] the older kids regularly go by nicknames related to their first names? If they don’t [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] definitely does not need a nickname. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if they do, [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] still does not need a nickname related to his name.
I really do think all the names you are considering could work very well in your set, aside from [name_m]Austin[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u]. Both seem a bit too “moder” ([name_m]Austin[/name_m] honestly seems dated but I don’t know it’s usage in Australian).
As far as [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], though a stretch [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] could work.
Other suggestions:
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_u]Howard[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] or [name_m]Walter[/name_m] best from your list. If you really don’t like [name_m]Frank[/name_m], I’d stay away from [name_m]Franklin[/name_m].
[name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and
I agree that if you really dislike Frank, do not go with Franklin. Even if you don’t call him that, the general public has a way of calling people by the first syllable of their name.
Completely honest, I find Rupert stuffy. But I’m American so that may not be the case elsewhere. I like Walter best with the other kids’ names. Classic but unpretentious. Austin and Angus seem comparatively modern, but I like August.
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m] is one of my favorite names but I also hates [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. Though I like [name_u]Franky[/name_u]. Your whole list is phenomenal. Other ideas: [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], [name_u]Wallace[/name_u], [name_m]Ansel[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Orville[/name_m], or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. Good luck.
My favorite is [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. It goes perfectly with your other names. [name_m]Walt[/name_m] is adorable too. I also love [name_u]August[/name_u] and the suggestion of [name_m]Warren[/name_m]. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] would also go well.
If you don’t like [name_m]Frank[/name_m], I wouldn’t use [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]. An example - my son told me his best friend from school is “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]” and everyone else seemed to call him [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. When we went to his birthday party it was evident that his parents much prefer [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]! Who knew? Parents have little control over nicknames!
I also agree if you don’t like [name_m]Frank[/name_m] I wouldn’t use [name_m]Franklin[/name_m].
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] is great! [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] are good options too.
I’ve actually found people don’t shorten your name if you don’t want them to. Especially as an adult; if you introduce yourself by a full name, people don’t shorten it. I say this as someone with two nephews, [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], who are never [name_m]Mike[/name_m] or [name_u]Chris[/name_u], and I’m R0xanne, never R0xy. So if you love [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] but hate [name_m]Frank[/name_m], I still don’t think that’s a dealbreaker.
