Lately I’ve been thinking of the names Uxue & Öie for twins. I will probably never be brave enough to use them, but I’m still wondering, do you think they are weird? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they go together?
How are they pronounced?

I’ve heard of Uxue as a Basque woman’s name. I would be surprised to meet anyone with this name who is not Basque. I’m not familiar with Öie and I’m not sure how pronounce it.
These names aren’t usable for me, personally, but if you have the heritage to back them up, I’m sure they’re usable.

I’ve never come across these names before. I’d have difficulty pronouncing them but If they are special and meaningful to you, I can’t see why not

I know I’m just repeating what others have said, but could we get pronunciation and maybe some background on the names? They’re names I’m completely unfamiliar with so it hard to say if they go well, if they’re weird etc.
But what I can say is if they’re names you love and can pronounce and those around you would be able to pronounce them, I don’t see why you couldn’t use them!
I have no idea how to say these names and I’ve never seen them before. I do find them weird. I guess they go together, since I don’t know how to pronounce them and they look unusual.
Uxue oo-SHOO-eh, is a popular [Basque] feminine given name meaning dove.
I found this one! I love the meaning, and because I live in a community who has a strong Basque influence it would work here, somewhere that doesn’t have any Basque influence might struggle with pronunciation but that’s not too hard to fix imo.

I know Õie (with a ~ over the O rather than the dots over Öie) is an Estonian girl’s name meaning flower - I think they could be related?

I gave my oldest daughter the middle name [name_f]Xochitl[/name_f], which my whole family thought was weird at first. Since we do not live in Mexico and it would not be pronounced easily, I agreed to it being her middle name, not her first. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and his family speak the language that [name_f]Xochitl[/name_f] comes from. Since my kids will also have that Nahuatl/Aztec heritage, I felt comfortable giving her a Nahuatl word as her middle name.
I don’t know what nationality/language those names come from, but I don’t recommend using them if neither parent is part of that heritage. If one of you have that particular heritage, I would use them as middle names unless there was a big population of people who spoke that language where you live.

I’m not sure how they are actually pronounced, but I pronounce Uxue like [name_m]Ox[/name_m]- you and Öie like O-ie

Okey, so a lot of you wanted to hear more about these names. I can’t find any information about Öie, but Uxue is a Basque name meaning dove, and I think someone wrote that.
I wouldn’t call them weird, just unfamiliar to me! I think they look very intriguing and beautiful. The Basque pronunciation of Uxue, is very lovely. Öie is a little more elusive, theres not much information on it, if it is pronounced the same way as Õie, then I really like it!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] going off the pronunciations that I found online, I think they sound pretty together.

Oie, to me it seems non-intuitive, and in french it means ‘goose’

I wouldn’t use them if you don’t know how they are pronounced.
