An acquaintance of mine just named her baby this. All I see when I look at that name is…a female body part.
Am I the only one or is this a truly horrible name for that reason?
A little more information, the parents are American, no sort of strong ties to any other country.
Haha, I immediately thought of vanilla. But I get the association with the body part. I agree with you. Poor kid, parents should realize kids will probably bully her with that name.
The first thing I thought of was the Slavic name of [name_f]Vania[/name_f]/[name_m]Vanya[/name_m]. Some websites state that [name_f]Vanija[/name_f] is a derivative of [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] but I find that hard to believe. There is a Hindi name Avanija which means “[name_f]Goddess[/name_f] [name_f]Parvati[/name_f]” so maybe they dropped the first “A”. Yeah, if you jumble the letters it’s similar to the female anatomy although it’s missing a “g”. I wouldn’t have noticed it until you mentioned it in your post. But I’m sure you won’t be the only one who notices the similarity.
I know it sounds bad, but that’s the first thing I thought of as well lol.

All I see is what mischa pointed out - the Slavic name [name_f]Vania[/name_f]/[name_m]Vanya[/name_m]. I still don’t see vagina but I do know that if you change some of the letters around, you get that sound.
Also saw the female body part first when I misread it in a half-asleep daze. Yikes, poor child might have a tough time at school.
When I read it I thought Vagina right away. Maybe I just have a perverted mind.
Oh wow! This name is SO similar to mine, it is crazy. But the slight difference makes me not too crazy about the name.
