DH and I are going to give our new baby girl a middle name to honor a family member. For our family keeping the first sound/first initial is enough. Help us think of variations! We have three starter to work with: [name_f]Joan[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. I’ve gotten much farther on variations for [name_f]Joan[/name_f] than for the other two.
Of the names we’ve thought of so far, I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (good family friend, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]-it’s smart and feminine), [name_u]June[/name_u], and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I’m still keeping my eye out for related names that match with our short list of firsts. And I’m guessing there are good variations of [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] that I haven’t thought of.
To get those juices flowing, I picture our daughter sitting on a branch of a tree wearing dirty overalls, reading a book that looks way to big for her. The kind of tomboy that the boys suddenly realize is gorgeous, in addition to being really fun to ride bikes with. Smart, stubborn, strong, imaginative, physically coordinated.
DH and I have very different taste in names, but we’re both looking for names that are: clearly feminine (we dress our girls in gender neutral clothes most of the time but aren’t trying to raise a genderless kid), familiar but not common and spelled correctly.
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is all i can think of for [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. However, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] shares a meaning with [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]:
If you are oksy with slightly altering the first sound
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] was on my list of first names, but I didn’t think of it as a [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] variation!
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is intriguing. I’m not sure if I like it or not, but it does have a strong feel to it.
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] are definitely worth thinking about. They might do well with some of the shorter first names on our list.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] – I love this, but think DH will hate it
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] – again, I love this, but think DH will hate it
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] – this is DH’s preference
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f] is the only other name that comes to my mind that’s related to [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] is a form of [name_f]Joan[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_u]August[/name_u]. I prefer the names [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] but this has a nice ring to it (for me).
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] is also nice.
I really like the [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] combinations and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].
