Velma?

The name Velma just got on my radar and I wanted to hear some thoughts. I know of the scooby-doo associations, but don’t mind them. Also love the name Daphne, and would totally use Daphne and Velma as a sib set, so just want opinions on the name itself and if you like the sound of it.

Edit: is Nell too much of a stretch for a nn?

I LOVE it :orange_heart:

Such a cool name!!

I don’t think [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is too much of a stretch

I associate it with Scooby Doo and also with [name_f]Chicago[/name_f]. I wouldn’t use both [name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] in the same sibset, though, at least not if they’re both first names.

And I don’t love the name personally, but I see the appeal for others. I think [name_f]Nell[/name_f] works as a nickname!

I can definitely see the appeal! Personally I tend towards [name_u]Alma[/name_u], or Vera…but [name_f]Velma[/name_f] has her own charm (and strength!).
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, but I think with [name_f]Velma[/name_f], for me, it’s a Scooby Don’t (sorry, I couldn’t resist this bad pun!).
However, I think [name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are great inspiration for some Scooby-adjacent sib sets:

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_u]Alma[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]

[name_u]Or[/name_u] on the other hand

[name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Velma[/name_f] and Xanthe/Zoe/Phoebe/Chloe…or [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]!

Scooby Doo is all I can think of and also a viral video of someone making fun of [name_f]Velma[/name_f] the character :joy:

As a name, I don’t like the sound of it. It sounds clunky to me. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as a sibset has teasing potential in my opinion.

I really like [name_f]Velma[/name_f] ! However it’s not a name I would use with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Mel[/name_u] could work as a nickname but [name_f]Nell[/name_f] would be a little bit of a stretch

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Vada[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]

[name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Velma[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f]

It’s personally not my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal. I can’t get Scooby Doo out of my head lol. I do love the name [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] though!

Velma and Daphne as sisters is a lot of love for Scooby Doo, that’s for sure! They’re much nicer on their own. I quite like Daphne.
