Vera or Maeve

My fiance and I are expecting a baby girl in [name_u]July[/name_u]! We’ve (finally) narrowed it down to two names that we both love, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. Her MN will be “[name_f]Christine[/name_f]” after his recently passed mother, and we like how it goes with both names:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]

Problem is, I’m starting to have second thoughts about these names. Are they too old lady or different sounding? I’m leaning toward [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f], but am concerned people will associate her with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] because our last name ends in “ley” - so it will sound very similar together. And (no offense!) but I’m not a huge fan of that brand.

Thoughts? Need your opinions please!

I do associate [name_f]Vera[/name_f] with an old lady from a popular British soap! Those without those associations would probably think it perfectly sweet! I do like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] :).

I prefer [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] over [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. Personally I feel neutral about both. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you adore the names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel a special bond to the names? That is the important thing. We all have our own likes and dislikes and that is what makes the world not boring. Which one really jumps out at you? Which one do you keep coming back to? Maybe you haven’t found The One and still need to search for it.

I quite like both, but slightly prefer [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] over [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] definitely sounds fresher to me, so if you’re worried about picking a name that is too “dusty” I’d go with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].

That being said, I personally don’t think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is out of reach or in any way unusable. So if you prefer [name_f]Vera[/name_f], you should go with that!

I much prefer [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is very sweet and sounds like it will always belong to a child for me, similar to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] to me. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] on the other hand is feminine, class and elegance but at the same time is not at all pretentious, she’s down-to-earth and beautiful.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]! [name_f]Vera[/name_f] I’m growing to adore (plus, I’ve heard it means “truth” in Russian, which I love!). I want to like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], but I just can’t get into it. I think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful.

They’re both nice names, but I think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is a stronger, more interesting name with more of a presence. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] sounds lovely.

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]!

[name_f]Vera[/name_f], for sure! I love [name_f]Vera[/name_f] but my husband and I naturally pronounce it differently so it’s out for us. :frowning:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f], for sure! I love [name_f]Vera[/name_f] but my husband and I naturally pronounce it differently so it’s out for us. :frowning:

This seems to be a common issue! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it [name_m]Veer[/name_m]-ah or Vair-ah?

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is lovely and has a powerful namesake (the mythological Irish queen). I really do like [name_f]Vera[/name_f], but only when pronounced VAIR-uh. The [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-uh pronunciation just doesn’t sound as nice to me.

All of this!!! [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] is so good. I also think of [name_f]Vera[/name_f] Wang long before [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] come to mind.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]! I know a little [name_f]Vera[/name_f] (pronounced [name_m]Veer[/name_m]-a) and she is the cutest

I say “veer-uh” naturally but my husband says “vair-ah” naturally. The difference doesn’t really bother me but it’s a deal breaker for him. :frowning:

I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]

I think both are lovely names but both feel very different to me. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] strikes me as sweet and modern while [name_f]Vera[/name_f] strikes me as granny-chic but kinda sassy. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have other favorite names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they tend to fit more with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]'s style or with [name_f]Vera[/name_f]'s? That could help you decide if future sibling coordination is important to you.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] is a beautiful, underrated name. In my opinion, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] does not compare.
