Verbena & Honora

After going over my short list with my other half, we ended up scrapping [name]Mimosa[/name] (she felt it was “too wussy”), Belphoebe (questioned a few friends and they couldn’t get their heads around it), [name]Sabrina[/name] (friends said this just reminded them of the teenage witch, which is from our generation) and [name]Columbia[/name] (“too similar to the country”).

But she had some suggestions of her own (suprising, since she claimed she knows nothing about naming a baby!), two of which really caught my eye:

[name]Verbena[/name] (ver [name]BAY[/name] nah) and [name]Honora[/name] (on OR ah).

Not sure where she got [name]Honora[/name] from, but she said [name]Verbena[/name] came to her while watching The Vampire Diaries, where they use the plant (which they call by it’s other name, “vervain”) to ward off the supernatural.

What do you girls and guys think of these two names? Also, my main concern would be pronunciation - do you think these would cause a lot of issues in [name]England[/name] (south-[name]East[/name] particularly)?

Thanks

I love [name]Honora[/name] spelled [name]Annora[/name] and pronounced A-[name]Nora[/name]. The meaning of it is listed on this site. [name]Verbena[/name] would be a good mn choice I think.

I like [name]Verbena[/name]. I’ve heard it [name]Ver[/name]-bee-na though.

[name]Verbena[/name] is one of my favourites
But I too pronounce it ver-[name]BEE[/name]-na. I love that you can use [name]Vera[/name] as a nickname! (or [name]Bee[/name], [name]Bibi[/name], [name]Ena[/name]…)
[name]Honora[/name] is also wonderful, but I think [name]Annora[/name] makes it a little easier to deal with. For something more elaborate, [name]Honorine[/name] is absolutely darling ^^

I’ve only ever heard it pronounced ver-bee-nah. It’s OK, not a favorite. Obviously from my sig I love [name]Honora[/name]. I disagree with the others. I don’t care for [name]Annora[/name] because I pronounce it ann-nor-ah

I like [name]Verbena[/name] (ver-[name]BEE[/name]-nuh) and actually had it on my long list! [name]Honora[/name] has always sounded like a honking sound to me. If you liked [name]Columbia[/name], you may like [name]Cambria[/name]. You may also like [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Tarina[/name]–they have similarities to [name]Verbena[/name].

I used to work at Bath and Body Works, one of the most popular fragrances was Coconut Lime [name]Verbena[/name], pronounced ver-bay-nah.

[name]Honorine[/name]>[name]Honora[/name]>[name]Honor[/name]>[name]Annora[/name]

I like [name]Verbena[/name] & [name]Honorine[/name] a lot!

I also like:

[name]Ermine[/name]
[name]Fidelia[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Lavinia[/name]/[name]Levina[/name]
[name]Meliora[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name]
Olethea
[name]Pearley[/name]
Rosabel
[name]Sylvania[/name]
[name]Verity[/name]
[name]Vesper[/name]

My mother used to grow lemon verbena ([name]Ver[/name]-[name]BAY[/name]-na) in the garden–it smells so lovely! I think it’s pretty, and [name]Vera[/name] is a sweet nickname. I like it.

I like [name]Honora[/name] even more. I think [name]Annora[/name] is pretty, but it has a different feel to me: a tad more exotic or spunky or something where [name]Honora[/name] feels more regal/elegant/[name]Roman[/name]. [name]Nora[/name] is an easy nickname if you like (could get [name]Annie[/name] out of [name]Annora[/name], I suppose).

[name]Both[/name] sound like cat names to me…I would not use either on a baby

[name]Shame[/name] about Belphoebe!

I love [name]Honora[/name]. And I say it the same as Annorah (Aus).

I would like [name]Honoria[/name] however it’s VERY similar sounding to an STI puts it in the no-go-zone. I like PPs suggestion on [name]Honorine[/name]. Which has lead me to [name]Hermione[/name], which I also like.

I really like [name]Honora[/name], though I love [name]Annora[/name] which would definitely be easier to live with. [name]Verbena[/name] is pretty, but I doubt it would be pronounced correctly.

I prefer [name]Annora[/name] to [name]Honora[/name]. [name]Verbena[/name] I don’t care for.

I actually kinda like [name]Verbena[/name], though I imagine that the pronunciation would vary a lot based on who was saying it. My first instinct was ver-beh-na, but none of the pronunciations are unpleasant.

I like [name]Honora[/name] as well, though again there’s a lot of different pronunciations.

What about [name]Andorra[/name]?

Not a fan of [name]Verbena[/name], sorry, but do quite like [name]Honora[/name].

[name]Both[/name] names are great!
