These are 2 of my favorite girl names. I think I like Verity more (Latin for truth and very classic/traditional), but Verna (Latin for spring/green) is a family name (my husband and I each have a maternal great-grandmother named Verna). We don’t have kids yet, but we’re making our name lists and checking them twice lol. Which do you like better and if we were able to use both, are the names too similar?
I love [name_f]Verna[/name_f]! One of my fav names. They are definitely matchy, but if you don’t have an issue with that I think it’s fine but i do think [name_f]Verity[/name_f] could be an honor name for [name_f]Verna[/name_f].
I agree - if you like Verity more, it works as an honour for Verna. So cool that you share a family name!
Using [name_f]Verity[/name_f] as a honor/inspired-by name is a great idea! Thanks!
Thanks for the input! I think most likely we wouldn’t use both, so saying [name_f]Verity[/name_f] is in honor of [name_f]Verna[/name_f] is a great idea. [name_f]Verna[/name_f] originally wasn’t on our list until we realized we each had a very loved [name_f]Verna[/name_f] in our family lines:)
I prefer the bright, sparky [name_f]Verity[/name_f] but [name_f]Verna[/name_f] is sharp and cool too. I think you could get away with both of them, but they are a bit matchy
I would say they are very similar. If you wanted to use both, I don’t think it would be strange to so [name_f]Verity[/name_f] as a first name for one child, and [name_f]Verna[/name_f] as a middle for another child
I agree with above posters that [name_f]Verity[/name_f] as an honour for [name_f]Verna[/name_f] is a great idea! Especially if you like [name_f]Verity[/name_f] more
As for whether they’re too similar for siblings, they are very matchy but soundwise they are distinct enough they could work. However if you decided to have another child… they’re so matchy and uncommon a third might feel left out. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to think about.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] (prn. 'V-air-uh) might also be a good compromise as a way to combine bother [name_f]Verna[/name_f] & [name_f]Verity[/name_f] (it also makes a great nickname for Verity)
