Okay, I’ve been thinking of this combo for awhile, but I can’t really tell how out there it is. I know [name]Verity[/name] is unusual enough that it could be misheard, but what would it be misheard as? The only thing I can come up with is “Ferrety” (e.g. ferret-like)… which isn’t exactly a common word either.
And does [name]Bluebell[/name] remind anyone of a cow? I think of the flower, mostly because I attend a bluebell party every spring (it’s coming up soon!) and the forest flowers are truly gorgeous to behold. But I could see it reminding people of cows…
Our last name is Sweet and I wonder if [name]Verity[/name] Sweet wouldn’t be heard as “Very Sweet” sometimes, too… thoughts?
I think that [name]Verity[/name] is gorgeous. It’s my sister’s name and she rarely has problems with it being misheard. She does get loads of compliments on it though! [name]Bluebelle[/name] with Sweet does seem a little much but if it’s what you want, go for it. Maybe a more common middle might balance out the unusualness of [name]Verity[/name]?
[name]Verity[/name] is a fantastic name but I don’t know if I would pair it with [name]Bluebell[/name]. Seeing as both the first and last name are actual words in English I think the second name shouldn’t be another word but should be more name-y, if you know what I mean. [name]Verity[/name] is name-y enough to get away with as a combo for Sweet (which is not too uncommon as a last name so people are used to thinking of its name rather than its meaning), but [name]Bluebell[/name] takes it over the top, imho. Besides, [name]Bluebell[/name] is very new sounding while [name]Verity[/name] is old-fashioned. Maybe one of the old-fashioned names suggested by a previous poster would work better.
I agree with pp that since [name]Verity[/name] and Sweet are both words, a non-word name in the middle would work better.
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Claire[/name] (although this reminds me of the word clear in this combo)
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Kate[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Anna[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]
[name]Lovely[/name] to meet another [name]Bluebell[/name] lover. My daughter had [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] at the top of her list, she loved it so much but in the end decided on [name]Xanthe[/name].
I love the flower and that it is the Scottish national flower. If you asked do I see a cow when I hear [name]Clarabelle[/name] I would say Yes, but an emphatic No to [name]Bluebell[/name].
Those in the U.S. will refer to a brand of ice cream but that is irrelevant where we live.
I can see your point of the name being heard as Very Sweet so that could be a problem.
My cousin’s nn was [name]Bluebell[/name] and it is the cutest nn for a little girl.
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] is very pretty but I worry about [name]Verity[/name] Sweet because people being lazy speakers tend not to enunciate [name]Verity[/name] into three syllables and it could easily become Very or Verdy.
I don’t see any confusion problems with [name]Verity[/name].
Sorry, I really don’t like the combination. [name]Verity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] Sweet gives me a sugar high reading it. I like cute, but not that kind, and all three names being words is too much for me. Sweet’s an awkward last name. It’s really easy for a name to sound cutesy or lightweight with it.
[name]Rollo[/name] got me. All I think of when I hear [name]Bluebell[/name] is ice cream (I live in [name]Texas[/name] which is where it is made) so for me, [name]Verity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] Sweet is too much. However, I will say that before I lived in [name]Texas[/name], I associated [name]Bluebell[/name] with the flower, so if it works for you go for it.
Ditto with above poster. As someone with generations of roots in Brenham, I think of [name]Belle[/name] the cow and [name]Blue[/name] [name]Bell[/name] ice cream, immediately And then I start singing the jingle from the 1980-90s “We eat all we can and we sell all the rest, [name]Blue[/name] [name]Bell[/name] the best ice cream in the country.” Ok. So I am homesick and hungry for ice cream.
However, I would not let it keep me from using it. To me, those are good associations. Plus, the fact that its a flower (and a very pretty one too) put it higher on my list. I love [name]Bluebell[/name]. (btw, there is a great song newly released called [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] you might want to check out)
[name]Verity[/name] with the last name Sweet sounds like Very Sweet to me. Mmmm… I probably wouldnt do that if it were me. What about [name]Virginia[/name]? [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name]??
Thank you all for the excellent comments! This was exactly the type of feedback I was hoping for!
Funny enough, I hadn’t ever written out all three names together as [name]Verity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] Sweet. The “sugar rush” comment was apt. I have to remember to not only visualize our surname when coming up with combinations, but actually type it out and take a look.
I like [name]Verity[/name] [name]Isabella[/name]. The “bell” is still there, but it’s more well rounded.
Hmm … I’m not so sure about [name]Verity[/name] with the name Sweet. Like you said, it does sound a lot like ‘very sweet’. I love the name [name]Verity[/name] but not with your last name. Other names with the same ‘feel’ as [name]Verity[/name] are:
Also, I found [name]Bluebell[/name] to be a very Disney-sounding name. [name]Way[/name] too cutesy for my taste. That being said, I don’t seen anything awful about it as a MN.
[name]Deirdre[/name]'s suggestions of [name]Amity[/name] and [name]Felicity[/name] are fantastic! [name]Amity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] Sweet or [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] Sweet are so lovely.
Yes, I do agree with the “sugar rush” comment (even though I live in the US and have never heard of the ice cream). But I still love it. [name]Verity[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name] Sweet is just such a sweet name! It reminds me a lot of [name]Ruby[/name] Sweetheart [name]Maguire[/name], which I think is so cute. The only thing I would hesitate on is the [name]Verity[/name] Sweet part, because it really does sound like “very sweet”… which isn’t necessarily bad, it’s just that the association will always be there. Your daughter may love that or she may hate it. And if she didn’t like the sugary feeling she wouldn’t have much of a choice with [name]Bluebell[/name] as her middle name… Hmm, all in all I don’t think I would use this as the full name, personally. Which pains me to say because I think it’s beyond adorable, and with a different last name it would work just fine. Darn! [name]Verity[/name] [name]Isabella[/name] is very pretty, too. You might like [name]Bellamy[/name] or [name]Annabelle[/name] as well.
All wonderful names that retain the style, and uniqueness of [name]Verity[/name] without the overly sugary effect.
(I actually prefer [name]Amity[/name]!)
