it doesn’t work for me, sorry. the way I say [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Verity[/name_f], the only sound they have in common is the final -dee sound, and that’s just because of my accent. to me it’s like trying to make [name_f]Everly[/name_f] nn [name_m]Bailey[/name_m] work because they both share the -lee sound.
[name_f][/name_f]I think [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] works as sort of a universal nickname, one which doesn’t need to be similar to the first name (ie, I knew a girl named S@vannah who occasionally went by Birdie) but I also think those nicknames work better if they happen naturally, not planned.
