Veronica Mariel nn Romy?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,

So I know it’s probably too much of a stretch. But [name_u]Romy[/name_u] has special significance as does the sea and [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] (both a character namesake and ancestral.) [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] is pronounced similarly to [name_u]Ariel[/name_u].

Thoughts? I really want to avoid [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u], but the only other natural nickname I like is V.

I think [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is fine- a nickname doens’t necessary have to tie in that much with the actual name. Example: my name is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but my nickname is Nooshi, which has no relevance whatsoever to my name.

I agree with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], that nicknames don’t have to be a direct derivative of the given name, and I am a proponent of unexpected nicknames, but I think you should be prepared for people not to “get it” why [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is called [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. I would call it maybe more of a pet name, in context. But my point is, I think it’s workable.

I think [name_u]Romy[/name_u] definitely works as nickname for [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] think: If [name_m]Bill[/name_m], not just [name_m]Will[/name_m], can be a nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m], then [name_u]Romy[/name_u], not just [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u], can be a nickname for [name_f]Veronica[/name_f].

[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] is very pretty.

[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] is gorgeous. [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is one of my best friends’ names, I love it, and [name_u]Romy[/name_u] is a sweet nickname.

I agree that nicknames are very flexible and you can play around with the spellings and derivations a lot. I like [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u]. It’s refreshing when an unexpected nickname is used for a name you haven’t really seen it used for before

I’m not a fan of it. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Maia[/name_f] make more sense to me. Sure, nicknames can be anything you want them to be but some would be a pain to have to explain all the time.
