Veronika

DH and I have been talking about the possibility of baby #3 and I’m digging the name [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]/[name_f]Veronika[/name_f] lately. He’s not so sure about it, he thinks it sound too 80’s. But I like that it is sort of long, not too popular ([name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is #414) and I love the story of St. [name_f]Veronica[/name_f].

We have sort of a [name_m]German[/name_m] theme going (our last name translates to the word “terrible” in [name_m]German[/name_m]) so while it is not originally a [name_m]German[/name_m] name, I like that the [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] spelling has usage in Germany. We often use nicknames or at least pet names, and I’m not super fond of [name_f]Nika[/name_f], [name_u]Ronny[/name_u], or [name_u]Nikki[/name_u]. I was thinking [name_f]Vera[/name_f] but am not sure if it would pronounce more intuitively as [name_m]Veer[/name_m]-a or Vare-a if used as a nickname?

Anway! What do you think of [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] with siblings [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]? For a boy our #1 choice would be [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] who would go predominantly by [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]. Would love to hear any other suggestions as well

I love [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]/[name_f]Veronika[/name_f]. My friend [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] goes by [name_m]Vero[/name_m] or Vey (like [name_f]Fey[/name_f], but with a V). And I do really like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] too. I usually pronounce it Vare-a, but I get why many say [name_m]Veer[/name_m]-a. As a nickname for [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] though, I would always say Vare-a and I sort of expect others to pronounce it like that too intuitively, following the first syllable of [name_f]Veronika[/name_f].

[name_m]Konrad[/name_m], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] sound wonderful together!

I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Veronika[/name_f], it sounds very dated (60s / 70s here) to me.
It’s also a very adult name to me, an 8 year old bubbly, fun, energetic [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] feels off to me.
As for suggestions, I love these with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] & [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]:
[name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] & [name_f]Eleonora[/name_f], [name_f]Frieda[/name_f]/[name_f]Frida[/name_f] would be gorgeous, too!
([name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] with your little ones, btw.)

I had a classmate/teammate named [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], and she went by V a lot of the time. She was really positive and fun, so I definitely can picture a young, energetic [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] is absolutely fabulous with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]! A wonderfully spunky, strong set. I do also love @opheliaflora’s suggestions of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], and [name_f]Frida[/name_f].

And I agree - [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is a great pick, and I adore the nn [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]! Good luck

I love the name [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] and it was more popular in the 70s and 80s, but it is not necessarily tied to those decades. It’s very classic. It’s often given to very successful, beautiful characters, as well. [name_m]Just[/name_m] saying.

I would normally say it’s great but next to [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] it does sound a tad dated to me. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is soft and classic whereas [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] is more clunky and more time specific. It goes much better with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] just because of the hard K sounds, but as a set I’m not sure. I do love [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] for a boy though!

I love [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]/[name_f]Veronika[/name_f] and the nn [name_f]Nika[/name_f] is gorgeous.

I personally love the name [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Vi[/name_f] or Vee. I tend to like the traditional spelling, but either works.

I love [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]! (And obviously just in general.) Our [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] has a few different nicknames, but the ones we use most often are [name_u]Nico[/name_u] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. As for [name_f]Vera[/name_f]'s pronunciation, I like both so I’m not too picky if someone calls her [name_m]Veer[/name_m]-ah, but we tend to use Vare-ah, mainly because her middle name is [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] so Vare-ah sounds like a combo of [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]. I would just go with the pronunciation you and your husband like best, and I think most people will follow your lead. (Although if you really hate one of them and it would drive you crazy if somebody used the other pronunciation, it may be better to go with another name.)

Thanks, @luneth! I never thought of that option but I like Vey!

Always appreciate your responses @opheliaflora! Good to know the perception of the name. I do love [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_f]Martha[/name_f] especially from your suggestions! What do you think about [name_f]Marta[/name_f]?

Oh I REALLY like just V! Sounds spunky and sporty! Thank you so much, I’m a little in love with [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] and it’s a family name - bonus points!

Yes, you’re right! Thank you!

Thank you! Definitely something to consider!

Yes I forgot you had a [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]!! You have AMAZING name style and congrats on your newest! Great advice!

I think it’s nice. I think it would work well for you, but I can’t help but love [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] significantly more.

Ha! I totally agree, though I may be a little biased  I can’t find anything I love as much as those two names!

I actually like [name_f]Marta[/name_f] a lot, it definitely fits with your kids’ names. I do prefer [name_f]Martha[/name_f] in look but prefer the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation (which would be mah-ta) over the English -th- one.

My first instinct was that I much prefer the [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] spelling, and while that is true in general I agree with you that the [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] spelling is better in your case. The [name_m]German[/name_m] theme is fun, and [name_f]Veronika[/name_f] and [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] have a connection through the use of a K where you would often use a C. I don’t find [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] to be very dated, probably because I have only encountered one, and she was born in the 2000s.

However, reading through the comments I think I may like [name_f]Marta[/name_f] even more that [name_f]Veronika[/name_f]. [name_f]Marta[/name_f] is softer than [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], which I think fits better with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Marta[/name_f] also has a wonderful namesake in Brazilian soccer player [name_f]Marta[/name_f] [name_f]Vieira[/name_f] da [name_f]Silva[/name_f], who is certainly the world’s best female player and it could be argued one of the best players overall.
