Ok so had a long chat with the husband last night on boys names, and this is what we’ve come up with-
[name]Merrick[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]- originally [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] (which I loved) we changed mn to [name]Isaac[/name] (which I also love) so that we could call him [name]Ike[/name] if it fit him.
[name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]McCoy[/name]- I was so so surprise he chose this over my other suggestions like [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Wilder[/name]. But I really love it, and love the nicknames [name]Mac[/name], and [name]Coy[/name]. Husband loves the nickname [name]Micky[/name] (we love the vintage rat pack frank Sinatra black and white movie feel the nn [name]Micky[/name] has.)
[name]Maximus[/name]- I was sooooooo so so surprised when he told me he loved the name [name]Maximus[/name]! What do you think of this? I think it is adorable but is it too big of a name for a baby? I think [name]Max[/name] is cute too… But is it too much of a dogs name! I am reserved about this one but at the same time love it!
Zealand- this name came to me in a revelation a few years ago. I know it is a little out there… But at the same time it sounds familiar enough to use. It’s unique, without being weird. Has cute nicknames [name]Zea[/name] or Zeal or Zealy. What do you think???
I love [name]Isaac[/name] and like [name]Merrick[/name] but together they have too much “k” sound. [name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] sounds like you’re “callin’ [name]Thomas[/name]” to my ears. I don’t care for [name]McCoy[/name] (the Real [name]McCoy[/name]?). [name]Maximus[/name] is ok but it makes me think of a gladiator with an overdose of macho swagger. Dogs are given many human names so I wouldn’t worry about [name]Max[/name]. It’s not like you’re calling him Fido or something. Zealand would make a quirky mn. What about [name]Merrick[/name] Zealand?
[name]Merrick[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]- I agree with [name]Mischa[/name]: I love both names, but the endings are too similar for me. I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch to call [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] “[name]Ike[/name]”, and I like that combo much better!
[name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]- Not bad. I’m neutral about this one, just because I don’t personally love either name.
[name]McCoy[/name]- I think you would get some surprised reactions at first, but I knew a guy named McCord and he got along just fine. [name]Mac[/name] is a sweet nickname.
[name]Maximus[/name]- I’m with you, I think it’s a big, BIG name for a baby/little boy. Of course he won’t be that age forever, but in general, [name]Maximus[/name] is too much for me. You could try [name]Maxim[/name]/[name]Maksim[/name] if the magazine connection doesn’t bother you. Or [name]Magnus[/name].
Zealand- I actually do like this. I think the nickname Zealy is what gets me, and it just sounds so lively and fun (most Z names do, in my experience). You could also try [name]Seeley[/name], which sounds a lot like Zealy. I love [name]Seeley[/name] because of [name]David[/name] Boreanaz’ character on Bones, [name]Seeley[/name] [name]Booth[/name]
Thanks for your thoughts! I was afraid everyone would the [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] to be too CK heavy. But as long as [name]Ike[/name] could be a nn for [name]Merrick[/name] than maybe we will just stick to [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name]
I think [name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is handsome but am considering a different mn.
I know the real [name]McCoy[/name] will be a common joke among adults but I don’t think kids around the teasing age woul know the phrase. My husband and I think any boy would love To be called [name]McCoy[/name] and think it was awesome if people called him the real mc[name]Coy[/name].
Still on the fence with [name]Maximus[/name]. [name]Max[/name] is adorable.
I have always found that even though Zealand is not common, people seem to really like it a lot even if they wouldn’t personally use it. I think it is soooo cute especially with a more common middle name. Maybe Zealand [name]Thomas[/name]? Zealand [name]Finn[/name]?
I love [name]Merrick[/name]. It’s a bit rhymey with [name]Isaac[/name], but both names are great!
[name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is a lovely name. The first [name]Callen[/name] I ever met was a girl though, so it kinda throws me off.
[name]McCoy[/name] - I agree that [name]Mac[/name] and [name]Coy[/name] are cute, but I’m really not fond of capital letters in the middle of names and I also agree with pp who said that “real [name]McCoy[/name]” will be a constant annoyance throughout his life. It’s cute, but I’d avoid it.
[name]Maximus[/name] - the doggy feel is the main reason [name]Max[/name] has never made my list, it’s a fun name though. What about another Romanesque name: [name]Justus[/name], Leonidus, [name]Matthias[/name], [name]Angus[/name], [name]Argus[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Tobias[/name]
oh, I forgot to respond about Zealand! I love Zealand. Well, I love Zeal and Zealand/Zealen/Zealan seems like a way to make it easier to swallow. Zealand Thomas would be fantastic! Zealand Merrick would be even better
Merrick Liam has been your number 1 choice for so long though! What about Callen Issac? Then you can save the safer mn choice for something like Zealand Thomas. McCoy is not my favorite, but it does have a rather cool vibe about it. I really really like Maximus/Max but unfortunately not as a brother to Merrick. I think that Merrick and Callen match up the best in that regard. I could maybe see McCoy and Zealand as siblings too. =]

[name]Merrick[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] does sound very heavy in the “ck” sound, but I think [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] sounds striking and [name]Ike[/name] could still definitely work as a nickname for that!
[name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is nice. It’s handsome and not overly common, but it also just doesn’t stand out to me. So it wouldn’t be my choice.
I think [name]McCoy[/name] sounds adorable as a first name! And I sincerely doubt that anyone his age would even know the saying the real [name]McCoy[/name], and the adults who know it will most likely think it’s cute, or at least not tease him like children may. I think [name]Mac[/name] and [name]Coy[/name] are sweet nicknames as well.
I’m not really huge on [name]Maximus[/name]. It sounds very big and strong, and while [name]Max[/name] is cute, it sounds rather plain to me. It doesn’t so much make me think “dog”, but more so “oh, another [name]Max[/name]?” … I wish there was some middle ground between über-masculine [name]Maximus[/name], and cutesy, plain [name]Max[/name].
Zealand I [name]LOVE[/name]. This name is plain awesome, hands down! Definitely my favourite on your list. :3 I think Zeal and Zealy both make adorable nicknames as well. [name]Seeley[/name] is one of my favourite names, and Zealy sounds like a spunky twist on it. Seriously, this name is too cute.
I am in board with what most of you are saying, as is my hubby. [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] sounds better than [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] and can still have the nn [name]Ike[/name]. So [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name] it shall be
[name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is a little plain compared to the other names, so we scratched [name]Thomas[/name] for the time being as we try to find something as a mn.
I as well am not crazy about the capital c in [name]McCoy[/name]. But what about Mckoy? We really love this new addition to our list for cute nn [name]Mac[/name] and koy and [name]Micky[/name]. Husband walks around saying “Mckoy ma boy” so he is very much so on board with this one. We can’t find a good mn for Mckoy though. Closest thing we have found that sounds ok is Mckoy [name]Jameson[/name] but we think it is a little overboard on the Irish feel.
I took Zealand off our list for a while bc I was afraid it was too out there and he would get teased or the fam would all hate it. But it is just so adorable and original and most people seem to adore it… So it just had to come back on the list! I mean how cute would a little Zealy be?! Not sure of mn for this one either but we really like th suggestion of Zealand [name]Thomas[/name]. Really love Zealand [name]Merrick[/name] too, but can’t bare to take [name]Merrick[/name] from first to middle name!
[name]Glad[/name] you changed [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] back to [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Liam[/name], definitely sounds better to my ear as well. I’m not the biggest fan of [name]Merrick[/name] myself (sounds too similar to names like [name]Derek[/name] and [name]Eric[/name], which aren’t my favorites), but I do understand the appeal.
[name]Callen[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is nice enough. I do prefer [name]Callum[/name] to [name]Callen[/name], but [name]Callen[/name] is a pleasant sounding name. It is a name that’s jumping up the popularity list super fast though, so be ready for that. Jumped in to the top 1000 in 2011 at #691, and for 2012 jumped up another 121 spots to #570. That’s just two years. Seems to be this could be a top 100 (or higher) name in another couple of years (maybe).
[name]McCoy[/name] I don’t like so much. With that capital letter in the middle of it, it just seems way too last-namey. Not a fan.
[name]Maximus[/name] I don’t like so much either, sounds too much like maximum for my taste. But I do really really like the name [name]Maxwell[/name].
Zealand could definitely grow on me, though I think I’d need to give it time to simmer. I like [name]Roland[/name] and [name]Leland[/name] a lot, so I could see how I could appreciate this one after some reflection time. Which is strange, cuz I usually don’t like place-names shifted over to given-names.
