I met two children and their mother, who is pregnant with twin girls, from my hometown this week. When the mom introduced her kids, I thought “not too bad,” however I regret asking about the middle names. The names were shocking, especially since the children are absolutely gorgeous. The mother later added me on facebook so I’m certain about these outrageous spellings.
[name]Little[/name] girl: [name]Kohl[/name] NovymberrRayn
[name]Little[/name] boy: [name]Memphis[/name] NyghtTrayn
At this point I’m sure that the mom is a Guns n Roses fan. Only when I asked about the twin girls names did I realize that this mother is truly obsessed.
Twin girls: Vanellope NuRose (say [name]Penelope[/name], okay now say Vanellope, I know I know) and PerryWinkle RokkitQween
WDYT of these names? Would you name your children after a musical group, song, movie, etc.? If you did, what would the names be?
You’re right, they’re awful! The middle names are gross. The first names are, well, [name]Kohl[/name] and [name]Memphis[/name] are passable, I guess. Vanellope would be a thousand times better as [name]Penelope[/name]. PerryWinkle? Maybe just [name]Perry[/name]? I didn’t get that the middles are all Guns n Roses references (are the firsts Guns n Roses references, too?). The only one I’ve heard of is [name]November[/name] [name]Rain[/name]. Didn’t Guns n Roses spell it correctly? Why the crazy misspellings?
Ugh! Poor babies. I love the song [name]Iris[/name] by the Goo Goo dolls, so I have thought of using [name]Iris[/name]. However I could not do something like that.
Yeah, this is just a little bit too far gone to be plausible [name]IMO[/name]. I always find it a little off in threads like these when people randomly meet strangers, and share their kids’ totally, utterly bizarre name combinations.
Then again, if I had a kid I’d be tempted to make up wackadoodle fake names just to see people’s reactions…
Well, um, that’s… cool. I guess. Vanellope is the only first name I’m really on the fence about since all I see is envelope. [name]Kohl[/name] is a bit weird too? The middle names are giggle-inducing.
To answer your question, yeah, I’d probably name my kids things related to my favorite band. Considering that [name]Gerard[/name] is on my boy’s list, I have a dreadful desire to use the middle name [name]Way[/name], and my love for [name]Helena[/name] is a fairly direct result of the song [name]Helena[/name] (So [name]Long[/name] and Goodnight) existing. However, I would at least try to be subtle/tasteful with my naming.
I’ve contemplated using names related to a song/band I like but I can’t bring myself to do it. [name]Even[/name] when it is tastefully done (ex. [name]Benjamin[/name] for Breaking [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Eva[/name] from the song [name]Eva[/name]).
I’ll be honest, I’ve considered naming a kid [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Lee[/name] after the song Another [name]New[/name] World. But that is a normal name and no one would know.
Vanellope is the little girl’s name on Wreck-it [name]Ralph[/name]. My 2-year old niece wants to name her baby sister Vanellope…
I can’t argue for or against [name]Memphis[/name], because i personally don’t like it, but i like other place names so i can’t judge. [name]Kohl[/name] just sounds like the department store [name]Kohl[/name]'s. PerryWinkle is bad…
Okay, some parents really have it bad for their bands. I love music, and I’m proud of my tastes, heck I have indeed made a list of names connected to my favorite band here, but they’re slightly more subtle names to give to a baby. I would never dream of naming a future baby boy Vanderlyle just because there’s a song from my favorite band with this name in it. I do love the sound of it, but that’s way too brave to do for me. Maybe I could go for [name]Vander[/name] [name]Lyle[/name], but yeah, that’s still pushing it. Who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind when it will be time for me to have kids
I would name my children after a song, movie, musical group depending on the name.
The names? Too many of them. But I do like [name]Aurora[/name] (Foo Foo Fighters), [name]Persephone[/name] (Cocteau Twins) and [name]Alice[/name] (again, Cocteau Twins), [name]Jude[/name] (The Beatles) and [name]Lucy[/name] (again, the Beatles). As for musical groups, [name]Nazareth[/name] (boy) and Evanesence (girl) are really cool.
Some of the worst names I’ve heard ;(. I always feel bad for these children. I am so glad my mother named me [name]Rachel[/name]. It is popular but much better than something crazy or a weird spelling.
I actually plan to use names that reflect my favorite musicians, but I’d say 80% of them are simply coincidences.
For example, [name]Mark[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is a not-so-discreet reference to Blink 182, but it’s not my fault that [name]Thomas[/name] is my fiance’s father’s name. [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name] also happen to be members of my favorite bands as well.
I see no issue at all naming after music, but the example given is a little extreme. There’s plenty of adorable and great names that relate to Guns N Roses she could have used.
Ummm… Well, I think it is awful, but that is just me. I can see using names that connect to your favorite music or bands… But I prefer doing it a bit more subtly… Such as, I actually like [name]Prince[/name], and I have thought of using [name]Violet[/name] in the mn spot as a slight connection to purple, which also happens to be my fave color, lol!
[name]Anabelle[/name] [name]Lee[/name] is a poem by [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allen[/name] [name]Poe[/name], and [name]Nazareth[/name] is where [name]Jesus[/name] came from. Funny how people have so many different reference points.
