Vibe check on Imogene and/or Dorothy

I’ve had these two family names on my list for a while but I’ve been focusing on them more and more recently.

Do you have an immediate preference between the two? How do you view the names Imogene and/or Dorothy? Anything that jumps out to you?

I’m also generally open to Imogen and Dorothea. They are not direct family names in the same way which is both a pro and a con, so I would be interested if you strongly prefer Imogen to Imogene or something like that.

I know Dorothy is rising right now (I know three little Dorothys) but Imogene is completely off the charts. In 2019, there were 61 Imogenes and 540 Dorothys. NB also has Dorothy as #314 for the 2028 prediction. This doesn’t necessarily change my thoughts though it is very interesting and could be a comparison factor.

I’m open to any comments or ideas. Thank you so much!!!

I love both [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and Dorothy! I actually strongly prefer [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] to Imogen, and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would also be my preference over Dorothea, but only slightly.
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] are both names that do feel a little dated to me, but in a positive vintage-vibes-definitely-ready-for-revival kind of way. [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] feels fresh and vibrant to me. I think this may be the main reason I prefer [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] to Imogen: The ‘gene’ ending feels much brighter than just ‘jen’, and in my opinion, it could be rising in popularity in the future.
Overall, two really pretty names I like a lot

Ooh both of these are lovely.

[name_f]Imogene[/name_f] is sleek and interesting though I slightly prefer the sounds and flow of Imogen.

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is clunky cute, vintage and charming

[name_f]Imogene[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would be great sister names or used in a combo together! They both give me a fun and slightly nerdy vibe, and remind me of the great depression and dust bowl (movies: [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] / [name_m]Fried[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] Tomatoes).

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] are much more feminine, elegant and cool (they’re not as warm as the cozy [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] and Dorothy). [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is likely to rise in popularity due to the new [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_m]Swift[/name_m] song.

I really like them all! For me, I’d be most likely to use [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] nn [name_f]Idgie[/name_f] or Genie.

Both [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] & [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] are gorgeous!

[name_f]Imogene[/name_f] feels dark, ethereal and majestic. She’s brave and has this overall badass quality I just think [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] is very cool. For sometime I considered [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] but a family friend has a daughter with this name which put me off. Anyways personally I would stick with the family spelling off [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] but still of course [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is great so your onto a winner.

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is a sweet spunky vintage name. She’s happy sounding and feels very charming. I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] feels stylistically very different from Imogene. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] just doesn’t have that badass dark ethereal vibe. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is sweet. I think if you were to have this as a sibling set I would have [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] & Dorothea. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is beautiful and overall feels more daring like she could compete with Imogene. I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is better suited to a sister named Charlotte.

Normally, I pick anything over Dorothy, but in this case it wins out because I really dislike the harsh sound of Imogene. I love the potential NN [name_f]Dot[/name_f] too. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is a lovely variant, but I prefer good old Dorothy. The [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] connection is sweet too.

I much prefer Dorothy. Imogene is growing on me, though, and would be pretty cute, too – especially if you already know quite a few little Dorothys!

For me:
Dorothy > Dorothea
Imogene > Imogen

I love [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] and Dorothea. I feel like they have that 30’s vibe and are due for a come back

I drastically prefer [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or Dorothy. And I love the nickname [name_f]Dot[/name_f] !

I never really cared for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] but I really like [name_f]Imogene[/name_f]

I really like these comparisons and impressions. I tend to agree that Imogen & Dorothea feel a bit more elegant while Imogene & Dorothy are more sweet and clunky.

Love your description and this comparison is really interesting!

Not sure why but I prefer [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] or [name_f]Emogene[/name_f] personally! But I like [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] enough!

I’m not a huge fan of Dorothy. I wish I liked it, its my husband’s grandmother’s name and she’s a love. But I never liked the sound of Dorothy. I do prefer [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] but probably because I like Thea, not the beginning of the name. So I’m probably not much help here but I think these names even go well together. [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is quite stunning!
