Vibes for Lilia

My husband found the name Lilia a while back, and we’ve grown to love it more and more! However, when we’ve shared it as a potential baby name to people, they usually try to be nice, but it seems they think it’s an odd name, which makes me curious of what vibes it gives off to them. We live in the Western US.

What vibes do you get from Lilia? And, if you’re comfortable sharing, where do you live (general is fine)? I’ll share what we think later, but don’t want to taint your opinions.

Thanks!

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is warm, floral, and lyrical to me – it brings to mind pink and yellow flowers, meadows, sunshine, and ballet shoes. It has a gentle strength to it, a subtle fiery feeling and spunkiness that gives it energy. I can imagine a [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] to be any type of person with any personality and interests, which I appreciate in a name.

I am from the US (and have lived most of my life in the Western US as well)

I think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is really pretty, and not odd by any means! I’d actually consider it to be a somewhat “normal” and/or “popular” name! I think it’s sunshine, florals, and all things late spring! I live in the midwest of the states

It is uncommon but not odd I would say. It makes me think of a movie I watched in history class when I was younger (Spartacus maybe?) and there was a beautiful woman named Lillia/Lilia. Such a pretty name that it has stuck with me for more than a decade! I’m from the Midwest.

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is beautiful! It’s delicate but full of shine and kick - it feels fun and light! I associate it with the book Where Angels [name_f]Fear[/name_f] to Tread by E.M [name_m]Forster[/name_m] and @tori101 ! I think it feels familiar with extra spark
I’m in the UK btw

In my opinion [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is a very sophisticated, elegant name, a bit old fashioned ( in a good way) and without being pretentious.
It derives from the flower [name_f]Lilium[/name_f] which is a symbol of purity, innocence.
I’m not from the US so can’t help for the other part of your question.

I have the impression that it has the same feel as [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] rather than like [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], if that makes sense. More youthful and lacy rather than buttoned up elegance. From outside US.

I obviously absolutely love Lilia :bouquet:

So I‘m mum to a Lilia and live in England. I associate the name Lilia with pink flowers, ballet, European castles, meadows and early spring days. I also associate the name with Lilia Skala.

My immediate family were very pro Lilia but I think because she’s familiar to our culture (my mum is Ashkenazi Jewish honours her according to our culture along her family originating from Eastern Europe where the name originates from) however her daddy’s family found the name a little odd. Joseph’s family (Lilia’s daddy my S/O) were not familiar with Lilia as in the UK Lily is super popular but her variants are unheard off. They assumed it was an honour name (which of course it is) and that’s how they got on board. However I think if we had just chosen Lilia they would found the name a bit odd but then in Joseph’s family ‘popular names’ are more common the name Olivia is repeated three times for example. Also Joseph’s family originate from Uganda he’s Black British so my culture is alien to his family similarly his culture is alien to my family so course that added to Lilia’s unfamiliarity. Nevertheless now they absolutely love the name Lilia and his family always comment on how pretty the name is. Outside our families we’ve had comments about how the name is very unusual or did you make it up or oh that’s different from people turning their nose up at the name. I think when people come across any name outside the top 100 you do receive the odd comment and people can be very judgemental. But on the whole the majority of people love her name. Nearly Every time I introduce Lilia I receive positive response everyone says how beautiful her name is. I’ve even had a mum-to-be add Lilia to her list after a conversation with me as a potential for her unborn baby!! Ultimate compliment.

I honestly clearly absolutely love Lilia she is on the rarer side but as she has the familiarity of Lily on her side it makes her feel more familiar. She’s gorgeous if you love her go for it

Hope this helps :ballet_shoes:

I think it’s very pretty and sophisticated, the vibe it gives off is the daughter of a tasteful foreign diplomat who loves and respects their daughter but would raise her to be a ‘lady’
Also if you don’t know it’s one of the kids from one of the most famous YouTube family channels
Never heard the name, but I don’t live in an English-speaking country, and I don’t think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is [name_f]English[/name_f] either (which is why it might get some raised eyebrows-also the YouTuber thing)
To end, I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and don’t really see any practical issues, so if you love it go for it

For me if it weren’t for Nameberry I’d think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] was a name someone came up with to have a trendier option in comparison to the popular [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and Amelia…. I’m not sure I’d jump to odd though. It’s really not in comparison to like a million other names out there. I’m from the [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]England[/name_u] part of the US.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:   She was my favorite gymnast when I was a kid (well, still is.) It’s just the perfect balance of elegant, exotic, kind, warm, lovable and nature-y. And then it has the natural easy nn of Lili/Lily.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

lilia is an absolute stunner :ballet_shoes:

to me, she feels very light feminine, ballet pointe, pink flowers, white floral dresses, strolling through a field of pastel flowers :bouquet:
lilia is very much not odd to me, i feel as it sounds like it could be a trendier name, because of the “lily” sound in it! sounds like a name people would opt for as a variation to the ever-so popular lily :tangerine:

a moodboard to better describe the vibe of lilia 🌷

i hope this helped! :sunny:

Thanks everyone!! I am new to Nameberry, so it was exciting for me to read and visualize the great details of what [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] evokes for you  I am not very poetic or creative so I don’t think I could word it as well as you all did, but I do have very similar views on the name [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] :white_heart: It seems classy, elegant, and lovely to me, which I think is why it’s one of my favorites! I am none of those things (I’m much closer to a tomboy than a girly girl), but that is my favorite style for girls names, so I’m glad you all feel the same about [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! Your detailed feelings surrounding the name also gave me great new perspectives on it too!

I’m also relieved that it doesn’t sound like a strange made-up name to you either, although I’m sure some of that has to do with being in this forum and being name-obsessed, but still so relieving :sparkles:

Thank you so much!! I am very grateful :relaxed:

Thank you! I love that you said it can fit any type of personality because I think that’s important for a child :relaxed: I wouldn’t want a child to feel like they didn’t fit their own name, so that is a helpful point!

Wow, thanks so much for sharing so much detail about your personal experience with the name!! That is so helpful :relaxed: I also like that your in-laws grew to love the name because that’s what I hope would happen if we choose that name as well  I agree that it’s nice that it’s a pretty rare name, but also familiar at the same time. I’m not about exotic or strange names for my own kids, but I don’t love common either. Thank you!!

Thanks for your perspective! I do worry people will think it’s made up, but hopefully because it sounds pretty and similar to those popular names, people will warm up to it. Your comparison to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] might actually be part of why I like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] so much because I do love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and wish it wasn’t so popular.

I recently learned a friend had named her daughter [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] a few years ago, so I was excited to hear the name used by someone else since it’s out of the Top 1000 in the US. When I complimented the name and told her we had it on our list, she said she loved it because it was lily in Russian. Hopefully explaining to people that it is a name elsewhere will also help! :pray:t2:

Thanks again!!
