Victor

This is a new “interest” for me. I need someone to talk me in/out of it.

I love [name_m]Victor[/name_m], so I would definitely try to talk you in. To me it’s just the right blend of classic and fresh, it feels fairly young to me but still has a lot of dignity and history, and great international class ([name_m]Victor[/name_m] could be from so many different countries, it’s got real travel potential). It would be on my list for sure if it wasn’t the second most popular boy’s name in Iceland right now (well, it’s [name_m]Viktor[/name_m]).

Really? When I hear [name_m]Victor[/name_m] I think of an old man with a high opinion of his attributes. I find it simultaneously pompous and cheesy, though [name_m]Vittorio[/name_m] is nice. I’d probably opt for [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].

It might be because the three people I have know with this name were: my elderly neighbour when I was little, old yes but a lovely man, although he always went by [name_u]Vic[/name_u]; a little half-[name_m]French[/name_m] half-Canadian boy (not [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian) named after [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], very cute kid; an Icelandic man around my own age ([name_m]Viktor[/name_m]), pretty cool guy, political activist sort. Personal experience counts for so much! That and the fact that [name_m]Viktor[/name_m] simply is empirically a young, popular name where I live (and in Scandinavia as well, I think?).

The only Victors I know are in their mid twenties so it doesn’t feel dusty even though it’s a classic name. I think it sounds handsome and distinguished, an “intelligent” name.

My nearly-3 year old’s name is [name_m]Victor[/name_m]! Our last name start with a V too. My husband loved names I found overly macho ([name_m]Draco[/name_m], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], etc) - I liked countrified names he found overly hayseedy ([name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]). We both wanted something with history, easy to spell, and that could work in English and Spanish. [name_m]Victor[/name_m] hit the sweet spot. It’s especially meaningful to us as a name that fits in with my side of the family tree (again, kind of countrified) and his (Spanish speakers).

We have fallen even more in love with it over the years - we love that it’s got a long history but isn’t heavily used - we love that it’s so very international, way more so than a lot of the other English/Spanish names we considered - we love that it’s very timeless- we love the cheerful feel of the nickname [name_u]Vic[/name_u] and use that nickname about 50% of the time. We also call him “V” for short sometimes. We bump into another [name_m]Victor[/name_m] every 6 months or so (we live in TX, where the name is a bit more common) - just enough to get to see it on other cute kids but not so much that it makes it seem less special. I wouldn’t have ever picked [name_m]Victor[/name_m] on my own but I’m so glad that I was brought to the name through compromise with my husband’s tastes.

[name_m]Victor[/name_m] is a great name! I know one in his mid-twenties, he goes mostly by [name_u]Vic[/name_u]. I love that the name works in so many different languages, and how timeless and solid it is.

I think it’s ok. I love [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] though!

[name_m]Victor[/name_m] is handsome! I feel like most “older” Victors went/go by [name_u]Vic[/name_u] so while [name_u]Vic[/name_u] can sound a bit dated [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is more charming. I think it has a strong sound and can see it on a HS quarterback or as the valedictorian (fits many personality types).

My one year old’s middle name is [name_m]Victor[/name_m], after my grandfather. Now I almost wish we hadn’t used it, only because I would totally use it for a first name if we were to have another boy. It’s recognizable but fairly uncommon, strong and interesting, and [name_u]Vic[/name_u] is a great nickname. I would love to see more little Victors running around!

I love this name–it was actually the name I used to dream of giving my future son…but my husband doesn’t care for it at all! I would have tried to change his mind, but unfortunately even I had to admit it just doesn’t sound very good with our last name. But I still love this name, so I say go for it!

I’ve kinda been falling for this name lately myself. I’ve seen it used on a little boy, which was perfect, and on an older guy, which also fit him well. Not sure what it is, its sort of a classic name with a modern ring to it. I vote yes for [name_m]Victor[/name_m]!

I love it too. But I don’t like [name_u]Vic[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s inevitable?

I think [name_m]Victor[/name_m] is quite wonderful, connoting the perfect balance of strong and thoughtful.
