Vincent Vibes

So, I adore the name [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. It feels soft and gentle yet very masculine. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband, on the other hand, thinks it’s very harsh and stern sounding. I seem to get a more artistic (obviously from van Gogh) and intellectual vibe from the name, while it reminds my husband of the villains’ beefy bodyguards in action movies. Maybe I’m an outlier, but I’m just curious how other people see it!

What vibes do you get from the name [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]?

I feel the exact same as you!

I kind of see both your points helpful :see_no_evil:

It’s definitely a smart, crisp, intellectual sounding name to me. In the abstract, the sounds are quite strong and hard. But it’s such an enduring classic with so many wonderful namesakes that I also get a warm, familiar feel from it.

It’s one I suggest frequently to people looking for underused classics – by the numbers, it really is one of the most timeless traditional names around, and yet it’s never felt overexposed.

Maybe you should develop a sudden love of the name [name_m]Severus[/name_m]? [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] will feel positively fluffy in comparison!

I can see it both ways actually. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the nn [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u] sounds sweet but at the same time possibly in the mob.

I agree that I see both. I think of [name_u]Van[/name_u] Gogh but I also think of [name_f]My[/name_f] Cousin [name_u]Vinny[/name_u]

Vincent feels arty to me - it’s a strong name but in an understated, gentle way

I had a family member named [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], so I think of him! Debonair, strict, dry, nonchalant. He was something of both of those descriptions!

I get strong artistic vibes from it— [name_u]Van[/name_u] Gogh is one of my favorite artists and partly due to that, [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is a favorite name of mine. I also get slightly gothic vibes, as well as “dark academia” vibes, from [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], which is a plus for me. I think it’s a very elegant and timeless name.

I also recently read a book we are one of the main characters was named [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] after [name_f]Edna[/name_f] St. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_f]Millay[/name_f]. That character happened to be a girl, and I’m still not sure what I think about [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] on a girl, but reading that book renewed my love in the name in general and I’d love to see it used more.

I love [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].

But it does have a tough-guy, mobster kind of association. I have no doubt that all of that would melt away as soon as you’re introduced to the sweet little, rosy-cheeked [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] running around the playground.

I can also kind of see both of your points: I don’t think it’s harsh or stern sounding necessary, but I definitely know a lot of big, beefy, very masculine Italian guys named [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] so I can see that kind of solid, tough image as well as the soft artistic side. Honestly, I feel like [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is versatile enough that it can really fit all kinds of men and boys.

I definitely share your take on the name! That may be because I love van Gogh so much, but I think I pretty much have always seen it as an intellectual, soft, but noticeably masculine name. Sort of light academic. If your husband and you are interested in doing two firsts, perhaps pairing it with a name that is softer sounding to your husband would work!

Something such as
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]

Best of luck!

Interesting! I can see both of these images.

The [name_u]Van[/name_u] Gogh [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. The tough guy [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] (aka [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u]!). Isn’t there a beefy actor named [name_m]Vince[/name_m] Something, the one who dated [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_f]Anniston[/name_f]?

I am not drawn to the name because of some rough guys I’ve known with it and the [name_u]Vinny[/name_u] image. Now [name_m]Manny[/name_m] I love, but [name_u]Vinny[/name_u] no so much.

Vincent has always felt very gothic / dark academia to me. It reminds me of Frankenstein and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u] vibes
