Vintage "ie" ending

So I was just reading an article about how vintage “ie” ending girls names are making a comeback. I have always loved these names and if I have a girl she will undoubtedly have one!

My question is do you prefer [name]Lottie[/name] or [name]Hattie[/name] and why?

Ps I know they are nicknames, this doesn’t bother us

I prefer [name]Lottie[/name], just because [name]Hattie[/name] makes me think of hats, and the mad hatter! haha.
I also prefer [name]Charlotte[/name] to [name]Harriet[/name].

Oh my goodness, I [name]LOVE[/name] the old -ie names! They are possibly my favorite style. I [name]LOVE[/name] when they’re given as full names rather than as nicknames to something longer. Of your choices, I probably prefer [name]Hattie[/name]. I read a young adult novel as a teenager about a girl named [name]Hattie[/name], and it has appealed to me ever since. [name]Lottie[/name] is sweet too, though. You can’t go wrong with either one! I’m sure you’ve considered many other options (and your two are awesome), but here are some more that I find appealing:

[name]Eppie[/name]
[name]Cressie[/name]
Tassie
[name]Florrie[/name]
[name]Millie[/name]
[name]Essie[/name]
[name]Ollie[/name]
[name]Arlie[/name]
[name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Dollie[/name]
Actually, here, you will love this Nameberry gallery: 136 Vintage Nicknames for Girls | Nameberry

I like [name]Hattie[/name], I think it looks more of a “name” than [name]Lottie[/name]. [name]Essie[/name] is my favorite. I would love to do [name]Estella[/name] nn [name]Essie[/name] if my husband wouldn’t have vetoed it

My favorite “ie” name is [name]Lydie[/name] which can be a nickname for [name]Lydia[/name] but I prefer [name]Lydie[/name] as a stand alone name.

I have an unexplainable love of [name]Lottie[/name]. It’s totally not my style, but I just find it so endearing and could really see a child/young woman with this name. [name]Hattie[/name]'s ok, but doesn’t do a ton for me. I also like [name]Lettie[/name] quite a bit. [name]Hattie[/name] doesn’t do much for me.

I love a lot of other -ie names, but they’re mostly of the French variety rather than nn’s (e.g. Aurélie, [name]Eulalie[/name], Amélie, [name]Coralie[/name], Élodie, etc).

I don’t like any or them as stand-alones, except the French ones ([name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Lydie[/name], [name]Amelie[/name]). Least of all [name]Hattie[/name]; I’m hard pressed to come up with a less appealing name than hats+fatty.

[name]Lottie[/name], definitely. [name]Hattie[/name] looks very ugly to me - all I see is “hat”. [name]Lottie[/name] has more versatility, too - she could be called [name]Lotte[/name] or [name]Lola[/name] if she wants something different.

I love [name]Dulcie[/name], [name]Amalie[/name], [name]Lucie[/name], [name]Lydie[/name], [name]Queenie[/name], [name]Cecilie[/name], even though these are all full first names. For nicknames I like [name]Evie[/name], [name]Louie[/name], [name]Flossie[/name], [name]Mamie[/name], [name]Lexie[/name], [name]Scottie[/name], [name]Exie[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Hannie[/name], and [name]Cobie[/name].

Definitely [name]Lottie[/name]. I’m not a fan of [name]Hattie[/name] (I agree with sugarplumfairy, I see “hat”. And not to mention “hate” that sounds similar…), or [name]Harriet[/name]. On the other hand, [name]Lottie[/name] is cute.

I love [name]Lottie[/name]. It just has a really beautiful feel to it

Other vintage kinda nicknames ending in “ie”:
winnie - [name]Winifred[/name] or [name]Edwina[/name]
[name]Eddie[/name] - [name]Edwina[/name] or [name]Edna[/name]
[name]Millie[/name] - [name]Millicent[/name] or [name]Mildred[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name] - [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Aggie[/name] - [name]Agatha[/name] or [name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Nettie[/name] - [name]Annette[/name]
[name]Bonnie[/name] - [name]Bonita[/name]
[name]Bettie[/name] - [name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Bessie[/name] - [name]Betty[/name] or [name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Connie[/name] - [name]Constance[/name]

I prefer [name]Hattie[/name] - it’s super cute!

I think both are Adorable!! I would definately do longer official name though [name]Harriet[/name] and [name]Ottilie[/name] would be my favourite ways to [name]Harrie[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name]! My favourite is [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tilly[/name] ( my daughter:))…

I prefer [name]Lottie[/name] to [name]Hattie[/name].

[name]Lottie[/name] sounds softer.

[name]Lottie[/name], of the two.

My favourite -ie names:
[name]Tillie[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Goldie[/name]
[name]Billie[/name]
[name]Callie[/name]
[name]Millie[/name]
[name]Minnie[/name]
[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Lettie[/name]

Except for [name]Coralie[/name] and [name]Marie[/name] I’d use a longer form and then the rest as nicknames.

It’s [name]Hattie[/name] for me. [name]One[/name] of my favourite books is “A [name]Little[/name] [name]Princess[/name]”, and there is a character called [name]Lottie[/name] who is often very immature and prone to tantrums. [name]Even[/name] though she grows out of these habits, I still associate those characteristics with the name, so it wouldn’t be my first choice personally.

Looks like opinions are pretty much 50/50 on this one

Difficult! I think both are adorable, but as a full name, I think [name]Hattie[/name] works best. [name]Lottie[/name] sounds too informal and nickname-y, whereas [name]Hattie[/name] can stand alone, I think.

I like both [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Hattie[/name], but I have to say I like [name]Hattie[/name] a little more. [name]Maisie[/name] is another favorite of mine.

I love [name]Lottie[/name]! My favorite ie name is [name]Sylvie[/name].

[name]Lottie[/name]- it is so darn cute. I know a two year old with this as her full name!

Neither do a great deal for me - just not my style. I did know a [name]Hettie[/name] [name]Ann[/name] born a few years back, which I found cute, but still…not my style.
