Vintage Names that Need to Make a Comeback... and some that Don't

I came across some vintage names. What are your opinions? Have some of your own to add?

I like these…

[name_m]Abe[/name_m]
Barringer
[name_m]Foster[/name_m]
[name_m]Garner[/name_m]

[name_m]Ruben[/name_m]
[name_m]Rurik[/name_m]

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think these need to come around again…

[name_f]Morning[/name_f]
[name_u]Orange[/name_u]

I have a great-aunt [name_f]Blodwen[/name_f], I really can’t see that making a comeback soon…

Yikes! My grandma knew a girl named [name_u]Ardon[/name_u]. Horrible!

This is more ancient than vintage, but I came across the name Thales ([name_m]Thay[/name_m]-leez) last night. He’s considered the first Greek philosopher. It’s a simple name, I’m intrigued.

[name_m]Flavius[/name_m] definitely feels on-edge trendy to me - as in, not yet, but he fits within the [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] / [name_u]Finn[/name_u] / [name_m]Silas[/name_m] sort of area and I can see him catching on maybe in a few years. [name_m]Manfred[/name_m]'s not totally beyond the pale either [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] should make a comeback - she’s lovely - but I’m not sure she will, at least not in the foreseeable future. E

I really like [name_m]Flavius[/name_m] and [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f]!

I’d like to see my lovely grandmother’s names, [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] and [name_f]Irene[/name_f], come back. I think they’re beautiful and serene.

I also would like the names [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_f]Magali[/name_f] to make a comeback in [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking countries, but that’s probably a little while off yet.

I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is coming back. I’ve seen it suggested many times

Yes, it’s gaining in the US and UK, but in [name_f]France[/name_f] it’s still firmly middle-aged :frowning:

I had an ancestor names [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f], I don’t think that one needs to come back any time soon.

There used to be a traditional that your first son was named your maiden name. So then you get first names like…

[name_m]Deforrest[/name_m]
[name_u]Green[/name_u]

Right now I’m loving…

[name_m]Harlan[/name_m]
