Which would be the correct way to pronounce the name [name_f]Viola[/name_f]? VEE-ol-a like the instrument or [name_f]VI[/name_f]-ol-a similar to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?
You can do either, but my initial inclination would assume it was [name_f]VI[/name_f] - ol - a
It depends in which language, but I say [name_f]VI[/name_f]-ol-a like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] in English
I’m not sure if there’s a correct way, but out of Vee-OH-luh and Vy-OH-luh, I vastly prefer the former. I also know the stress can be on the first syllable too.
Vy-OH-la like [name_f]Viola[/name_f] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]. My great-grandmother’s name was [name_f]Viola[/name_f] and she pronounced it like that too
VEE-oh-la for me. My cousin is named [name_f]Viola[/name_f]. I have heard every pronunciation listed here, though, and I think they are all nice
I’ve always said and heard it said VY-oh-lah. Maybe that’s because I lived in a heavily Spanish speaking area and it’s actually a word in Spanish.
I have only ever heard it pronounced Vy-o-la (in the UK)
