I’m not expecting…just curious about this one.
Which do you think is better [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?
And why?

I really like [name_f]Viola[/name_f], but only said Vee-OH-lə. I think it’s beautiful, not overly popular, elegant, and would suit a girl/woman of any age. I quite like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] now (Downton ahem) but I still prefer [name_f]Viola[/name_f], mainly due to sound. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] tends to lose the second syllable when I say it quickly, so there’s more of a ‘vile’ sound. Both of them remind me of a feisty storybook heroine, so it’s all good :).
Both are gorgeous.
However [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is my favourite. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] just feels more versatile and I like the strong floral connotation and the images the name conjures up. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Viola[/name_f] is really elegant, for me as somebody who is learning Spanish, it’s to close to the Spanish word for rape ‘violar’ which unfortunately puts me of the name. Whereas even though some say [name_f]Violet[/name_f] sounds like violent for me it’s not as extreme as ‘violar’ so because of this [name_f]Violet[/name_f] wins.
My favourite is [name_f]Violeta[/name_f] actually, but that’s not an option. I don’t like the associations to violence that @tori101 mentioned. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a little worse for me since I’m not learning Spanish. I also like the musical connections [name_f]Viola[/name_f] has, and I love that it’s more unusual.
Would not use either though. [name_f]Violeta[/name_f] is on my list, it feels a lot lighter than both of the others. [name_f]Adore[/name_f] the nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] ^^
I personally prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but [name_f]Viola[/name_f] seems to fit in best with your kids–[name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]Azure[/name_f], and [name_f]Viola[/name_f] would be perfect. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]Azure[/name_f], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] don’t fit quite so well (although I do think [name_f]India[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be stunning if it was just them!). [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is my favorite option, followed by [name_f]Violetta[/name_f], and then [name_f]Viola[/name_f], but all three are super gorgeous, and I’d love to meet a little [name_f]Viola[/name_f]!
