We are expecting our first girl next year and I am absolutely in love with the name [name]Violet[/name]. However I also desperately want to use my Grandma’s name, [name]Harriet[/name], as we won’t be having any more after this (we already have 2 boys) and I would love to keep her name in the family.
My problem is that [name]Violet[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] just doesn’t sound right to me. I think it’s the ‘et’ endings together. I thought about maybe giving her a second middle name to split it up, so [name]Violet[/name] _ [name]Harriet[/name] but am still not convinced and can’t think of anything to fill the gap!
Does anybody have any opinions or ideas about this name? I am determined that our only daughter should have a pretty name that sounds lovely together.
Thank you so much
PS - hubby has suggested [name]Eva[/name] as that was his grandma’s name…[name]Violet[/name] [name]Eva[/name] [name]Harriet[/name]…???
I think it’s best to split up the two “et” names - [name]Violet[/name] [name]Eva[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] flows better than [name]Violet[/name] [name]Harriet[/name]. Using the two grandmother’s names in the combo is a wonderful way to honour both sides of the family!
I really like [name]Violet[/name] [name]Eva[/name] [name]Harriet[/name]. I also like the suggestion of [name]Violet[/name] [name]Hattie[/name]. Or I suppose you could do [name]Viola[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] nn [name]Violet[/name]? Although I agree, I much prefer [name]Violet[/name], too, though.
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Eva[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] seems like a great compramise- all three sound wonderful together. I think it’s the -et endings that make [name]Violet[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] awkward.
[name]Welcome[/name] to nameberry, and best of luck!
[name]Just[/name] my honest opinion but I feel that [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Harriet[/name] clash, even with the second middle name. The et endings is what does it, although they’re both really great names. I knew a really sweet girl named [name]Violet[/name] in high school Although I cant shake the fact it reminds me of “violent”. [name]Harriet[/name] comes with the really great nickname of [name]Hattie[/name] and isnt as popular as [name]Violet[/name] is getting. Id go with [name]Harriet[/name] for the name sake and save [name]Violet[/name].
I would also split up the ‘et-names’ I like your husbands suggestion of [name]Eva[/name]. I think [name]Violet[/name] [name]Eva[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] is very pretty and a nice way to honor both sides of her family.
Maybe [name]Violet[/name] [name]Harlow[/name]? [name]Harper[/name]? [name]Hartley[/name]? [name]Henrietta[/name]? You could also possibly keep [name]Eva[/name] in the the middle with those combos.
Thank you all so much for your replies It’s very reassuring to know that it’s not just me who thinks that [name]Violet[/name] [name]Eva[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] is pretty, I’m liking it more every time I say it to myself!
I also think [name]Hattie[/name] is very cute - just wish I could save some names for another one, never say never I guess
[name]Baby[/name] isn’t due until [name]June[/name] but I’m pretty sure that I won’t change my mind.
