Violet or Victoria?

Which name do you prefer?

As a whole, I like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] better, but I don’t care for nns [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] or [name_f]Tori[/name_f]. I don’t hate [name_f]Via[/name_f] or [name_f]Plum[/name_f] but they don’t make my heart sing like the full name.

I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and love the vintage-y nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], but I’m a bit hesitant because one of my cousins has been dead set on naming her future daughter [name_f]Violet[/name_f] ([name_f]Vi[/name_f]) since kindergarten. Would it be stealing if I were to use a different nn?

Also, what do you think about [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] as a combo?

Love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], used it for my daughters middle name, [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] works, but it’s a bit of a tongue twister.

I definitely prefer the regal [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], but [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is definitely a nice vintage name. I honestly don’t care for any of the nicknames for either, so I’d use them in full and think that is possible. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] works, though it’s probably not my favorite as far as flow goes.

I prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f] to [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] as a full name but the nicknames of [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] to those of [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

If you’re worried about it seeming as though you’re stealing a name from your cousin, maybe talk to her about it to see if she’d have an issue with it?

I’d probably go with [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

I like both and I love the combo. I think that you should use the name you like regardless of someone else using it. You can both use it right?!

I feel like you shouldn’t use [name_f]Violet[/name_f], especially if you are close to that cousin. I like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] better anyways. Have you considered the name [name_f]Colette[/name_f]? That way you could still have [name_f]Lettie[/name_f].

I used to like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] a lot, but I have taught so many of them by now. I’ve known only one [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (a baby) but of course I think a bunch more are out there.

I too dislike [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] and [name_f]Tori[/name_f], so I would go with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] that nickname!

And it’s not stealing. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] has become a very common baby name choice. Many many people like it and choose it and you and one of your cousins simply both like it.

I think so, I just know some people take issue with it, especially since it’s the one name she’s told me she wants to use.

I personally love the name violet!

I prefer [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. [name_m]Long[/name_m], royal, lots of history and great nicknames! [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is a bit of a tongue twister though.

You can speak with her and tell her and say if she is fine you both name your children in the same way. I don’t see the problem. They will grow and go their way in life anyway and this will become irrelevant. So this should not be a problem for any of you now.

I prefer the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but it sounds like it’s special to your cousin; maybe [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] would be better. You could always have [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as a middle!

I love both and I love them together! [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is stunning.

I think if you like [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] then [name_f]Paulette[/name_f], [name_f]Collette[/name_f] or [name_f]Leticia[/name_f] might be better alternatives to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. You could also just shoot for [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] which I think works perfectly fine as a name on its own. I have no preference for either they both seem like everyone’s go to V names and they’re fine.

Thank you

I agree with you. I like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] better than [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I like the NNs for [name_f]Violet[/name_f] better.

A cousin picking the same name personally wouldn’t deter me.

Violet [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] sound fine to me!

Victoria

I love both names but I think for you it would be awkward to use [name_f]Violet[/name_f] when your cousin loves [name_f]Violet[/name_f] so much. I feel like that’s her name and if your close to her I don’t think it’s fair to use [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like my sister loves [name_f]Erin[/name_f] & [name_f]Maya[/name_f] she also really likes [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] so I wouldn’t feel comfortable using them. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is my name I love my name it’s universal, translatable, elegant and ageless. It’s just a classic choice. I do get [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] at work but most the time I’m just [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] or simply V. I wouldn’t worry that much about nicknames especially as you don’t particularly hate [name_f]Tori[/name_f] or [name_f]Vicky[/name_f]. She could end up with a nickname completely unrelated to her actual name. For example my friend has a daughter called [name_u]Denny[/name_u] [name_f]Dulce[/name_f] but everyone calls her Bows as she always has a bow in her hair. In relation to the combination [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is nice but a bit of a tongue twister due to both names starting in [name_f]Vi[/name_f].
