We’ve been playing around with names and have come up with this list of our favourites. WDYT? Which is your favourite brother name for our little [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?
Bonus points for any nickname/pet names we could use for [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. Also, I know that [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] is a bit different to the other names on the list as I did raise an eyebrow when DH first mentioned it but I’ve really grown to love it and I think the combos flow well. He’s a big David Bowie fan hence the suggestion. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] was a strong contender if [name_f]Violet[/name_f] had have been a boy. Thanks!
I like how excited you sound about the name [name_m]Bowie[/name_m]. From my perspective you should pick [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u], if it was already one of your top picks prior to having [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
On a side note, I really like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]; both sound very soft spoken, and have the same vintage vibe (but then again, so does [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]).
If I had to choose just one, I think it would be [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u]
(Or maybe [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m])
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] could be a nn for [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. Or if you use [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] in the middle spot, maybe [name_u]Max[/name_u] would work

Now to break those down:
I don’t find [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] to really fit with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] personally, so I’d likely strike it from the list if these were the names I was considering.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] feel like classic siblings to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and as such are very strong contenders. All of your combos for these two are lovely I’m just not totally sold.
I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] wins for me!
I think I agree on [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] and we’re also debating on keeping [name_m]Miles[/name_m] as a middle name option. We have two names for each gender that don’t seem to have a natural nickname. I’ve just explained under my girl list post that we had a bit of trouble with [name_f]MIL[/name_f] not liking [name_f]Violet[/name_f]’s name leading to her only calling her [name_f]Letty[/name_f]. It’d be good to have one/two good nickname options that we like just in case we suffer the same dramatics with this little bean’s name lol.
[name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] would sound great too but we want to keep a [name_u]Finn[/name_u] name as a middle option for honour reason and just because we love it lol.

The only middle name pairing I would cut is [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. [name_u]Finley[/name_u] just feels a little bit trendier than the other options, which are all nice.
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]: I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and I love it with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Again, I’m curious about your nickname choice. [name_m]Ed[/name_m]? [name_m]Ned[/name_m]? I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u], but I like how [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] feels a little more unexpected.

Would he be a [name_u]Theo[/name_u] or a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]? I think I prefer [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], but [name_f]Letty[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are a little close.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]: Not a fan of [name_m]Walter[/name_m], personally. I don’t think it’s quite ready for a comeback, and it always makes me think of [name_m]Walt[/name_m] Disney.
I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] best for you, followed by either of the [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] options.

And believe it or not, but my husband is a huge [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] fan, too. We even used to have a poster of him on our kitchen wall…
Also, which names are your struggling with nicknames for? We had a similar dilemma with some relatives not liking our son’s name so I know the importance of having a nickname that bridges the gap.
I love [name_m]Walter[/name_m] but I do have concerns that it’s not due it’s comeback yet, as another poster also mentioned.
DH is very pleased with the love for [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] lol. I didn’t think it was going to be well received especially paired with more traditional first names but somehow it works.
We were struggling with a nickname for [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. I feel for you! My [name_f]MIL[/name_f] outright refuses to call her [name_f]Violet[/name_f] but at least we’ve got her using a nickname for it rather than addressing her by her middle name or a nickname for it instead.
I’m honestly not too fussed about nicknames as I think they’ll choose to go by whatever they like best eventually anyway. As long as we don’t outright dislike them, I’m not fussed. We never thought about them with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] until after she was here and [name_f]MIL[/name_f] started using one (as she doesn’t like [name_f]Violet[/name_f]) and as I don’t see any name that she didn’t choose being good enough, I’d like to be well equipped in saying “You can call him/her X, Y, Z instead then”. Although, I do see us using [name_u]Theo[/name_u] over [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as it just seems more natural to me.
As much as I love [name_m]Walter[/name_m], I see what you mean. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] seem to be much more in tune with [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
Oh yeah [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is a tricky one because it’s already so concise.
It sounds like you’ve narrowed it down though!
With [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], I still like [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but after ruminating [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] has really grown on me so I might have been swayed!
Of the remaining [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] options, [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is just lovely!
And I wouldn’t worry with [name_m]Walter[/name_m], I think it’s absolutely ready for a come back and would be quite refreshing.

With my son, we wound up using the nickname [name_m]Archie[/name_m] which I’ve heard some people use with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] as well though typically people go with [name_m]Art[/name_m]/[name_m]Arte[/name_m]/[name_m]Artie[/name_m]/[name_m]Arty[/name_m].
[name_m]Eddie[/name_m]/[name_m]Eddy[/name_m] is the obvious choice with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but I also love Moony as a nickname.
My friend’s baby is [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and they call him Smiles. It’s not a nickname you’ll use as a teenager or anything, but super cute on a happy baby.
